Another interesting sports weekend is behind us, marked by victories for Crvenka’s handball players and Hajduk’s basketball and bowling teams. In the 13 round of the Super B League championship, Crvenka’s handball players, playing at home in Ruski Krstur, defeated Belgrade’s Sinđelić 28:27, although the visitors won the first half 12:10. The first half was mostly goal for goal, but from the 20 to the 26 minute, Sinđelić managed a run of 3:0, took a 10:7 lead and went into the break two goals ahead. However, in the second half, Crvenka drew level by the 36 minute, and by the 52 minute had taken a four-goal lead (26:22), making it seem that the winner had already been decided. But the visitors did not give up; they capitalized on several mistakes by Crvenka’s players and had a chance to equalize in the final minute, but failed to take it, so the points stayed with Crvenka. Bosković was Crvenka’s top scorer with 11 goals, and Crvenka’s young goalkeeper Predrag Marjanac was named player of the match. Our other Super League team, Sivac 69, hosted Smederevo in the 13 round in front of its supporters and lost 31:22, with the half-time score 14:10 in Smederevo’s favor. The defeat was hardly surprising given the personnel situation in the Sivac squad. Against Smederevo, Sivac were without the injured Džabasan and Milan Šajin, as well as Slavuljica; Čabai sat out the match on the bench, Furtula was also absent, and Beslać played only in defense. Smederevo, meanwhile, buoyed by its win over Kikinda, which brought it closer to the leaders, knew how to take advantage of all the difficulties facing the home team and claim victory. Žegarac was Sivac’s top scorer with 7 goals. After thirteen rounds, Crvenka is fourth in the standings with 16, while Sivac 69 is eighth with 11 points. In the next round, both of our Super League teams will play away. Crvenka travels to Apatin, while Sivac 69 visits Kolubara in Lazarevac. In the 13 round of the First League championship for women, both of our teams played away and suffered defeats. Crvenka’s Laki visited Jadran in Feketić, where it lost 32:29, with the half-time score 15:11 in Jadran’s favor. Jadran’s handball players controlled the game and the score throughout, and the match was decided at the start of the second half, when Jadran scored eight goals in eight minutes while Laki managed only four. With a four-goal lead at half-time, the home side’s advantage grew to eight, which proved insurmountable. Marija Ivić was Laki’s top scorer with 7 goals. Our other First League team, Sivac’s Krule, visited league leaders Ruma. The home team justified its status as favorite and won 37:28, with the half-time score 18:15. Something similar to what happened to Laki also happened to Sivac’s handball players, who were only three goals behind at half-time, but by the 41 minute Ruma had a ten-goal lead, with the score at 27:17. Ruma then brought the match to its desired conclusion with routine play. Aleksandra Jelenković was Krule’s top scorer with 9 goals. Krule is currently ninth in the standings with 7, while Laki is last with 2 points. In the next round, Krule hosts Jadran from Feketić in Sivac, while Laki hosts Zrenjanin’s Proleter.
Hajduk’s basketball team have begun their playoff campaign in the First Regional League of Serbia. In the first round, in front of their home fans, they beat Srbobran 92:80, half-time 55:39. The Kula team played without the ill Đurović and injured Lješević, with Mandić returning to the squad. Hajduk’s basketball players struggled only in the first quarter, as Srbobran were hitting their three-pointers and the quarter ended level at 25:25. However, in the second quarter, with slightly stronger defence and more fluid offence, Hajduk took control of the game and went into the break with a lead of 16. It was already clear then who would win, and during the second half Hajduk’s lead at times exceeded 20 points. Hajduk’s leading scorers were Suvajdžić with 22 points and captain Škrbić with 18. Hajduk are currently fourth in the table with four wins and three losses, and in the next round they travel to Stara Pazova, who have two wins and five losses.
Last weekend was unsuccessful for Hajduk Volleyball Club, as both the men’s and women’s teams suffered defeats. In round 16 of the Second League championship, Hajduk’s men travelled to Ravni Topolovac, where they faced Zrenjanin’s Proleter. Hajduk travelled with a younger squad, without several of their regular, more experienced first-team players. Proleter won 3:0, with set scores of 25:14, 25:14 and 25:9. Hajduk’s men are currently eleventh in the table with 10 points, and in the next round they travel to table leaders Partizan in Bač.
In the 12 round of the First Vojvodina League, Hajduk’s women’s volleyball team hosted Goks In from Odžaci, who had not yet earned a single point. A win was expected for Hajduk’s players, but they suffered a 3:1 defeat. Hajduk won the first set 25:17, but Odžaci then took the next three: the second and third 25:20 each, and the fourth 25:16, thus recording their first win. Milorad Lazić, founder of Volleyball Club Hajduk, says that what had been “swept under the rug” came to light last night: the situation in the women’s team had gotten out of control. A lack of a clear idea of what to play and how, a lack of desire and motivation, and the absence of the necessary chemistry within the team led to the heaviest defeat of the season. Lazić says discussions with both the coach and the players are necessary to assess what needs to change so things can improve. So far this season, Hajduk’s women have earned 3 points, and next round they travel to Bečej.
