Another eventful sports weekend is behind us

Another eventful sports weekend is behind us, marked by two municipal football derbies and Hajduk's seventh consecutive basketball victory.

We start with football.

Hajduk's footballers drew 2:2 at home against Jedinstvo from Stara Pazova in a match in round 21 of the Serbian League, Vojvodina Group championship. Due to illness, head coach Željko Račić was unable to lead the team, which affected the performance of his players. Hajduk dominated the first half, creating several excellent chances, two of which were converted into goals by Matijašević and Šakić, and they went into the break leading 2:0. However, in the second half the “Hajduks” did not perform at the level they had in the first, which the visitors took advantage of to earn an equalizer and a valuable point about ten minutes before the end.

Hajduk are currently thirteenth in the standings, with 21 point, and will visit Borac in Sakule in the next round.

The match between Hajduk and Jedinstvo from Stara Pazova began with a celebratory atmosphere. After fifteen years, Hajduk was visited by legendary centre-forward Dejan Osmanović, who also took the ceremonial first kick. On the occasion, Hajduk president Dalibor Krković presented popular Kale with commemorative gifts. You can watch a recording of the Hajduk–Jedinstvo match from Stara Pazova on KU Television tonight from 20.

The twenty-first round of the Sombor District League championship was marked by a municipal derby. Rusin and Lipar faced off in Ruski Krstur. The home team outplayed Lipar in every aspect of the game and won 6:1, and it seems the derby was decided in the first half, which Rusin's footballers won 4:1. Branković scored twice for Rusin, while Lანčužanin, Sušić, Nemanja Kulić and Aleksandar Toma scored one goal each; Marčetić scored Lipar's consolation goal. Our third representative in the District League, Crvenka, drew 2:2 away against Borac in Bački Gračac. The home team were better in the first half, scored two goals and went into the break with that lead. However, Crvenka were better in the second half and equalized with goals from Babić and Jovanović within two minutes. Babić came close to securing a win for his team late in the match, but failed to take a clear chance, so the points were shared. Rusin are currently third in the standings with 43 points, Lipar are twelfth with 24, and Crvenka are thirteenth with 22 points. In the next round, Crvenka host Radnički from Ratkovo, Lipar host Borac from Obrovac, and Rusin visit ŽAK in Sombor.

A municipal derby also marked the 18 round of the Sombor Intermunicipal League, First Division. Mladost and Kula faced off in Kruščić. Holovati and Fekete gave Mladost the lead with their goals, before Popović, then Vojnović from the penalty spot and Mihajlović secured a win for Kula. Sivac's Polet drew 0:0 at home against Terekveš from Svilojevo. Kula's footballers are currently second in the standings with 37 points, Polet are sixth with 29, and Mladost are ninth with 17. The next round features another municipal derby: Kula will meet Polet from Sivac, while Mladost visit Dinamo from Bački Breg.

Handball news

The eighteenth round of the Super B League championship was unsuccessful for the clubs from Kula municipality. In the local derby in Vrbas, Crvenka's handball players lost to Vrbas Petrol 32:28. Although they played without captain Radonjić, who spent the match on the bench, and goalkeeper Pavićević, who was not in the squad, Crvenka's handball players performed well, and, led by the in-form Feješ and Račić, won the first half 18:16. However, when Feješ was injured at the start of the second half and Bošković in its middle, Vrbas managed to take advantage of these setbacks and record a win. Račić was Crvenka's top scorer with ten goals.

Sivac's handball players visited Kikinda, where they lost 27:19 to the league leaders, Kikinda, with the score at halftime 13:7. Due partly to work commitments and partly to injuries, Sivac traveled to face Kikinda with only eight players, so coach Branko Žeželj says he cannot be dissatisfied with his team's performance. Young Vuk Vlaović played the entire match in goal and confirmed his talent, while Čabai was Sivac's top scorer against Kikinda with 8 goals.

After eighteen rounds, Crvenka are sixth with 18, and Sivac are tenth with 14 points. The championship takes a break next weekend for EHF week, and in the nineteenth round, scheduled for 30 April, Crvenka host Morava from Velika Plana, while Sivac 69 host Voždovac from Belgrade.

In the eighteenth round of the First League championship for women’s handball, the Sivac team Krule beat hosts Ravangrad 25:21 away in Sombor, with the halftime score 14:14. The match was decided midway through the second half, when the Sivac handball players turned a tie at 16:16 into a run of 7:2, took a 23:18 lead and successfully held on to it until the end. Aleksandra Jelenković was Krule’s top scorer with 11 goals. The Crvenka women’s handball team Laki played away in Temerin, where they lost to the hosts, Temerin, 33:19. The winner was already known after the first half, as Temerin’s players won that period 18:7. Marija Ivić was Laki’s top scorer with 7 goals. After eighteen rounds, Krule are seventh with 15, while Laki are eleventh with 8 points. In the next round, Laki will host Jabuka, while Krule will host Temerin.

Hajduk’s basketball players continued their winning streak. In the seventh round of the Serbian First Regional League playoffs, in a local derby, Hajduk defeated Vrbas in Vrbas 94:76, with the halftime score 42:36 in favor of coach Danilo Borović’s side. Hajduk’s performance had its ups and downs: they built a lead, but then had brief dips that allowed Vrbas to get back into the game. In the end, Hajduk’s quality proved decisive, and their win in Vrbas was their seventh consecutive victory. Hajduk center Aleksa Tešović stood out with an excellent performance in Vrbas, but all the other players also deserve praise for the successful run. Hajduk are second in the table with a record of ten wins and three losses, and in the final playoff round they host Železničar from Inđija.

Hajduk's volleyball players have completed their first season in the second division. In the final, 22 round of the championship, Hajduk's volleyball players lost at home to Mladost from Nova Pazova after five sets. Hajduk won the first set 25:20, while Mladost won the second by the same score. The home team were better again in the third and won the set 25:19. Although they had arrived with only six players, Mladost's volleyball players did not give up and won the fourth set 25:19, so the winner was decided in a fifth set. Mladost's players showed greater composure and served better, winning the deciding set 15:13 and the match 3:2.

And speaking of volleyball, let us also mention that Hajduk’s women will play their final-round match in the First Vojvodina League tomorrow in Sombor, where they will face CVS Elbrako Tehnolend.
