A state of emergency was declared today in the Municipality of Kula due to the worsening epidemiological situation caused by the spread of the infectious disease COVID-19.
Kula Municipality President Damjan Miljanić said that one of the main reasons for declaring the state of emergency was a problem encountered recently: the large number of elderly people who have contracted coronavirus and are being treated at home.
“They cannot receive services from geriatric home-care aides, since those aides serve healthy people and could potentially put them at risk. Through the state of emergency, we will provide additional funding to hire more people and equip them to serve this category of users, so that we can begin providing these services,” said Kula Municipality President Damjan Miljanić.
The president added that residents’ needs would be monitored daily and new measures introduced accordingly. He also said that the number of cases in the Municipality of Kula was quite high.
“Through stricter measures, we will try to reduce the number of cases and ease the pressure on the healthcare system, because we can see that both our clinic and the surrounding hospitals are under great strain.”
President Miljanić stressed that working hours would remain unchanged, as would the operation of schools and kindergartens, and that the situation would be monitored and measures adjusted daily if necessary.
According to the latest data from the Institute of Public Health, 416 people in the Municipality of Kula are infected with coronavirus.
