The formal ceremony marking Kula Municipality Day was held at the “Kupola Rodić Jezero” in Kula. The ceremony was attended by numerous local, provincial and national officials, including Nikola Selaković, Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs; Dušanka Golubović, State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry; Predrag Rajić, Special Adviser to the Minister of Defence; and many other figures from the public and political life of Kula Municipality, Vojvodina and Serbia. Representatives of the clergy, the army and the police were also among the guests. The programme opened with a performance by Ljubica Vraneš, a soloist with the Belgrade Opera, who sang the national anthem of the Republic of Serbia, “Bože pravde.” Following the anthem, the choir of students from the School of Elementary Music Education performed three songs from the musical stage production “Dreams in a Cradle.” As for this year’s awards, certificates of recognition went to Dr Velibor Vasović for his expert and professional work and contribution to the development of healthcare in Kula Municipality and the Republic of Serbia, and to Dr Fedor Teodorović for his professional and dedicated work in healthcare, promoting tennis among children and encouraging a healthy, high-quality lifestyle. The “LAG Srce Bačke” association received a plaque for its work in the economic and social life of Kula Municipality. Đura Bogojevac of Kula, leading his platoon in Lieutenant Radovan Matejić’s company, arrived in Kula as a liberator on 16. November 1918. At a session of the Kula Municipal Assembly on 12. February 2015, a decision was adopted to mark this day as Kula Municipality Day. Kula Municipal President Damjan Miljanić welcomed all those present who had come to mark this very important day for the municipality. Miljanić also noted that Kula Municipality had become known for delivering major projects, some of which had been no more than words on paper for decades but are now a reality and an important part of how local government operates:
“In Kula Municipality, things have been done on a scale that is among the largest by many measures. I could list the major projects that waited decades to be delivered, but that does not set Kula Municipality apart. That is what is happening in Serbia today: everything that had not been done in the previous fifty years is now being built and accomplished. That does not set us apart; we are part of Serbia, and that is only natural. What sets us apart is that we have neither sea nor river here, but we do have a plain and blue skies, wonderful people, and we work for them and their smiles—and we will keep doing so. When we talk about Kula Municipality, most of the things you see were actually made by people. Before the Great Bačka Canal was dug, there were semi-swamps and small towns here; today, they are cities and some of the most fertile farmland. This place where we are gathered is also magnificent today, thanks to a vision and the tremendous work of one family and one company, as we can all see. People have achieved a great deal, and we will continue working for our citizens. It is easy to talk about the future because it is easiest to talk about it when we create it ourselves, and I am confident that we will all shape and build it together.”
Nikola Selaković, Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, wished all the residents of Kula Municipality a happy holiday and stressed that, on his way to Kula, he had seen much that had been improved and that testified to the municipality’s success in many fields:
“Dear Municipal President, dear friends, ladies and gentlemen, venerable fathers of our Serbian Orthodox Church, dear brothers and sisters. First, I would like to wish all the people of Kula a happy Kula Municipality Day, and hope that every year, as you gather, you take stock and see how much you have managed to improve your municipality. As I was preparing for my visit this evening, I saw many things in Kula that have been seriously improved and are truly better. I must mention two things with which I am personally connected, especially in terms of my work. Over these ten years, Kula Municipality has managed to reduce unemployment by, believe it or not, almost 65%. There is also one statistic that is truly…” a striking contrast, with Kula far outpacing Serbia. In fact, almost 15% more babies were born in Kula in 2022. It seems the storks in your municipality have not let you down and have visited you often. I wish Kula, in a Serbia that never stops, to move even faster, make progress, develop, and become a better, more pleasant place to live. It is wonderful when we have so much good news to share with one another, and when we have something to congratulate you on. I am confident that you will continue to work seriously, diligently and with dedication. Long live the Municipality of Kula, long live Serbia!
