Hajduk’s Serbian League footballers are already on a break following the conclusion of the autumn half-season. Their record is as follows: among 20 teams, 19 league matches were played, in which “Hajduk” recorded seven wins, four draws and eight defeats, scored 33 and conceded 28 goals, and with 25 points are fourteenth in the table. This is a position that keeps them “above water” in the battle to remain in the Serbian League. How does Hajduk president Dalibor Krković assess the team’s performance in the autumn season?
“The autumn season could be divided into two parts. In terms of results, I can’t really be satisfied, because we are 3-4 point short of being in a somewhat more stable position in the standings. On the other hand, we have given many young players a chance to prove themselves, scored lots of goals, and have the league’s top scorer. In that respect, we are satisfied because we have chosen a path that gives young players the chance to establish themselves through Hajduk. So, we can’t be satisfied with being fourteenth, but neither can we be dissatisfied, because we are the youngest team in the league,” Krković said.
Immediately after the autumn season ended, Hajduk lost the league’s top scorer, Nikola Furtula. His eighteen goals in 19 matches were an excellent recommendation, and Super League side Spartak Ždrepčeva krv is the new club for this prolific goalscorer.
“Furtula left as planned, because we had also agreed with him in June that he would always have the option to leave. We took the position that we would never stand in the way of one of our players when he has an opportunity to move up a division or get better terms and advance his career, because that also helps advance the club,” Krković explained.
Hajduk’s footballers are scheduled to reconvene for the second half of the season around 20 January, as the spring season is due to begin on the first weekend in March. However, everything will once again depend on the epidemiological situation.
