Implementation of electricity-saving measures

Last week, Kula Municipality President Damjan Miljanić said that the local government had completed preparations for an energy-saving measures plan, following instructions from the Ministry of Mining and Energy. The Ministry of Mining and Energy has recommended that all local governments in the Republic of Serbia implement activities to save electricity and heating energy in line with the current energy situation in the world and in Serbia.

Today, the Kula Municipal President met with the directors of cultural centres in Kula Municipality, the director of the Kula Cultural Centre, the director of the public library, the secretaries of local communities, the directors of public utility companies and the Directors’ Association. Together with Suzana Musić, Kula Municipality’s energy manager, he presented the savings measures adopted by the municipality in accordance with the regulation prescribed by the Government of Serbia and the competent ministry.

The president of Kula Municipality said that, from the perspective of our municipality, the targets required by the measures—which call for reducing public street lighting by 33% and cutting electricity consumption in public institutions by 15%—are very achievable, given that our municipality has been working on energy-efficiency renovations to save energy. As a result, 11 public institutions have switched to gas, and energy-efficient indoor LED lighting will soon be installed at Sunčica Kindergarten, the sports hall in Ruski Krstur and Petefi Brigada Elementary School in Kula. Miljanić added that the local government had also used subsidies to encourage residents to consider energy efficiency and savings, and many households have switched from electric heating to gas heating. Taking all this into account, savings are expected to exceed the targets, Damjan Miljanić concluded.

The measures are being implemented to reduce electricity and heating energy consumption in state and public institutions, as well as in households and businesses, with the aim of saving electricity for the coming winter.
