Another exciting sports weekend is behind us, marked by wins for Crvenka’s handball players and Hajduk’s basketball players, as well as the seventh Serbian Grappling Cup, which was held yesterday in Kula.
In the eighth round of the Super B League championship, Crvenka’s handball players beat Morava 34:23 away in Velika Plana; the half-time score was 15:13 in favor of the “Squirrels.” The decisive moments came with Crvenka leading 17:15 in the 34 minute. Over the next five minutes, Miloš Mitrović’s team scored a run of 6:0 to take an eight-goal lead, then comfortably saw out the match. Crvenka coach Miloš Mitrović said that collective play and good defensive energy, which produced many easy goals, proved decisive, and that he would like his team to finish the autumn season at this pace. Vuk Perović was Crvenka’s top scorer with 11 goals and was also named player of the match. Our other Super League team, Sivac 69, lost 24:22 away to Voždovac in Belgrade; the half-time score was 12:10. Sivac were hampered in Belgrade by the absence of playmaker Slavuljica and key defender Petar Šajin, while Džabasan had not fully recovered. This affected the performance of Branko Žeželj’s team, who were leading 18:17 in the 47 minute, but then made a few errors that Voždovac exploited to take a two-goal lead in the 54 minute, before securing the win in a goal-for-goal finish. Milan Šajin was Sivac’s top scorer with 6 goals, while Beslać and Čabai scored five each. After eight rounds, Sivac 69 are sixth in the standings with 9, while Crvenka are seventh with 8 points. In the next round, Crvenka will host Smederevo, while Sivac 69 will welcome Vrbas Petrol in front of their home fans.
Both teams from our municipality suffered defeats in the eighth round of the Women’s First Handball League. The women’s handball club Krule from Sivac visited Temerin, where they lost 32:18 to the home team. The match was effectively decided after about twenty minutes of play, when Temerin took a 12:2 lead. Milica Rabrenović was Krule’s top scorer with 9 goals. Laki from Crvenka visited Jabuka, where they lost 25:24 in a dramatic finish. Jabuka led throughout the match and had a four-goal advantage at halftime. Then, with a goal by Marija Ivić in the 59th minute, Laki drew level, but Jabuka’s handball players scored their 25th goal in the final minute to win. Marija Ivić was Laki’s top scorer with 9 goals. After eight rounds, Krule is ninth in the standings with 5, while Laki is last with 2 points. In the next round, Krule hosts Jabuka in Sivac, while Laki hosts Mladost from Srpska Crnja.
Yesterday, the seventh Serbian Grappling Cup—an international event—was held in Kula at the Petefi Brigade Elementary School sports hall, under the auspices of the Serbian Wrestling Grappling Federation and organized by the Constrictor Fight Team Kula Combat Sports Club. Dejan Tešić, president of the Serbian Wrestling Grappling Federation and a coach at the Constrictor Fight Team, welcomed the competitors and all the guests. Kula Municipality President Damjan Miljanić had the honor of opening the competition and said:
“I thank the organizer and Dejan Tešić, in whom I trusted to do a great job, and that was the main reason for supporting him first and foremost, and then this competition as well. It has become clear that this support is fully justified; the competition gets better every year and brings together wonderful competitors. I am honored to have received a plaque on behalf of the local government, as well as the opportunity to open this competition. On behalf of myself and the municipality of Kula, I welcome you and wish you an enjoyable and successful competition here in Kula today,” said Miljanić.
Among more than 270 competitors from eight countries who demonstrated their skills at the seventh Serbian Grappling Cup was 21 member of the host club, “Constrictor Fight Team.” Medal winners included: among the seniors, Damir Uglik took second place in the heavyweight category, senior Milica Glušica took third place, and Jovan Sekulić took second place in the under-75-kilogram category. In the junior competition, Veljko Lučić took first place in the under-92-kilogram category, while Milica Glušica added junior gold to her senior silver. Among the cadets, Ognjen Jakić took third place in the under-85-kilogram category. In the children's division, Vukota Vuković took third place in the under-47-kilogram category, Boško Prosan took second place in the under-27-kilogram category, Stefan Ačanski took second place in the under-32-kilogram category, Mateja Miller took third place in the under-35-kilogram category, and Teodora Ačanski took first place in the over-25-kilogram category.
In the 14 round of the Serbian League championship, Vojvodina Group, Hajduk's footballers lost 1:0 to Feniks from Stara Pazova in front of their home fans. Serious problems with the squad, as well as a strong opponent who took the top spot in the standings with the win, explain Hajduk's latest defeat, which left them in last place. The extent of Hajduk's squad problems is evidenced by the fact that Novaković and Grubačić, boys born in 2005, made their debuts against Feniks.
Hajduk is at the bottom of the standings with 10 points, and will visit Vršac in the final round of the autumn half of the season. You can watch a recording of the Hajduk–Feniks match on Ku Television tonight at 20.
Of the three teams from the municipality of Kula competing in the Sombor District League, only Rusin from Ruski Krstur had a successful outing in round 14 of the championship, beating hosts Polet 2:0 away in Karavukovo. Rusin took the lead in the tenth minute with a goal by Stefan Toma, and in the 89 minute Darko Sušić made it 2:0 for Rusin. Crvenka suffered a heavy defeat away in Silbaš, losing 7:1 to Naša Zvezda. Naša Zvezda scored twice in the opening minutes of the match, and Milan Subotić pulled one back in the tenth minute to make it 2:1, but then the hosts scored five more goals, inflicting one of Crvenka’s heaviest defeats. Our third representative in the Sombor District League, Lipar, lost 3:0 away to Budućnost in Mladenovo. With one round remaining in the autumn half of the championship, Rusin are sixth in the standings with 25 points, Lipar are thirteenth with 16, and Crvenka are fourteenth with 9 points. In the final round of the autumn half of the championship, Rusin host bottom-placed Radnički from Sombor in Ruski Krstur, Lipar host league leaders Bratstvo from Prigrevica, and Crvenka host Kordun from Kljajićevo.
The final round of the autumn half of the championship in the Sombor Intermunicipal League First Division was marked by a municipal derby played in Kruščić, where Polet from Sivac defeated hosts Mladost 4:2. Sivac took the lead through Vukašinović, after which Holovaty scored twice to put Mladost ahead. But with Vukašinović’s second goal, followed by goals from Davidović and Rašković, Polet secured the win. Kula lost 5:1 away to OFK Odžaci in Odžaci. Radojčić scored for Kula. Despite the defeat in Odžaci, Kula finished the autumn half of the championship top of the table with 30 points, Polet is fourth with 26, and Mladost is twelfth with 13 points.
Even after five rounds of the championship, Hajduk’s volleyball players have yet to earn a point. In round five of the Second League championship, Hajduk hosted Proleter from Zrenjanin and suffered a 3:1 defeat. In a terrific atmosphere in the stands, coach Milorad Lazić’s players put up a respectable fight against Proleter, who are objectively the stronger team, as evidenced by the fact that they have three junior national team players in their squad. Proleter won the first set 25:17, Hajduk took the second 25:20, but they did not have enough strength to do more. Proleter won the third set 25:14 and the fourth 25:17, deservedly taking the points from Kula. Coach Lazić says he has nothing to reproach his players for: they are fighting as hard as they can, but constant injuries and illness among some players have taken their toll. Hajduk’s volleyball players will have a chance to earn their first points in the Second League next round, when they host Bač.
In the fifth round of the First Vojvodina League championship, Hajduk’s women’s volleyball team played away in Subotica, where they lost to Win Volley 3:1. Considering that Win Volley are league leaders and the Kula team were depleted, without Lucija Kovijanić, Jovana Steljić, and Staša Malenica, winning one set is an achievement. Maja Grozdić and Ana Stojović got their chance in Subotica, while Adriana Bukejlović put in a notable performance with a high-level reception, and Kristina Basara was the team’s top scorer. Hajduk’s women’s volleyball team is currently eighth in the table and will visit fourth-placed Apatin in the next round.
In the seventh round of the Serbian Republic League, North Group, Hajduk's basketball players defeated hosts Nova Pazova 89:57 away in Nova Pazova, with the halftime score at 52:29. Although they were without Đurović, Lješević and young Mandić, Hajduk played solid defense to create easy scoring opportunities, and it was already clear after twenty minutes that the points would be going to Kula. Although Hajduk coach Danilo Borović rested the older players in the second half, the younger ones kept up the pace and celebrated a convincing win at the end. With six wins and one loss, Hajduk are currently second in the standings, and in the next round they visit Sveti Đorđe in Žitište.
In the 8 round of the First Vojvodina League championship, Hajduk’s bowlers, playing at home in Vrbas, outperformed the pre-round leaders, Kristal from Zrenjanin, by 6:2 in points, or 3207:3135 in knocked-down pins. Hajduk’s best results came from Vladimir Trišić, who knocked down 567 pins, Marko Eraković with 559, and Branko Vuksan with 538 pins. Hajduk’s bowlers are currently second in the table with 10 points. In the next round, scheduled for 27 November, they will visit leaders Vrbas, who have 11 points.
