In the 4th round of the Super B League championship, Crvenka’s handball players lost to the team of the same name in Loznica, 27:20. Given that the Crvenka team traveled to this away match without experienced players Račić, Kosović and goalkeeper Karavezić, as well as Pušica and young players Stokanić, Predović and Kojadinović, defeat was inevitable. Radосav Kovačević’s team played well while they had the energy, as shown by the fact that they were leading 12:10 in the 35 minute. However, as the match progressed, they ran out of energy and suffered defeat. Ivić was Crvenka’s top scorer with 5 goals. Crvenka’s handball players are currently sixth in the standings with 4 points, and have a bye in the next round.
Our first-division handball teams also had disappointing results. Sivac 69 lost 29:21 away to Lavovi in Bačka Palanka in the fourth round of the championship, with the halftime score 15:9. By the middle of the first half, the hosts had taken a 7:2 lead and managed to maintain it. Sivac’s top scorer was Vitomir Kalić, who scored 9 goals. Sivac 69 are fifth in the standings with 5 points, and host Mladost from Vršac in the next round. Young Crvenka handball players, the Laki team, lost 35:19 to Sloven away in Ruma in the fourth round of the first-division championship. When you lose by 16 goals, there is little point in talking about Laki’s performance. Crvenka’s top scorer was Dragana Dimitrić with 9 goals. Laki are currently tenth with 2 points and a game in hand, and host Spartak from Debeljača in Crvenka in the next round.
The tenth round of the Sombor District League championship featured two local derbies. The first was a disappointing affair on Saturday, between Hajduk Junior and Mladost from Kruščić. The match was abandoned in the third minute, with Hajduk Junior leading 1:0 after a goal by Vladan Vujović, because the visitors had started with only seven players. After the goal, Danijel Varga sat down on the pitch and complained of an injury, leaving the referee no choice but to end the match, which will be recorded as a 3:0 for Hajduk Junior. The other local derby was played yesterday at Geder, between Kula and Rusin from Ruski Krstur. Kula won 2:1, with goals by Žarić and Mirko Radulović, while Hrnčar scored for Rusin. There was plenty to see in this derby: the visitors missed a penalty, with Hrnčar’s shot read by Kula goalkeeper Mile Radulović. The visitors had a man advantage throughout the second half, but the Kula players found the strength to claim a valuable win. Crvenka defeated Budućnost from Mladenovo 3:1 at home, even though the visitors had taken the first half. In the second half, goals by Faćol, Jovan Subotić, and Milan Subotić, who scored a fine free kick from around 25 meters out, earned Crvenka the expected victory. Lipar fans also expected a win against Borac from Bački Gračac. However, Lipar lost 2:1 at home. The visitors took the lead, then Luka Kovač equalized, after which the Lipar players missed several chances to score and were punished for those misses in the closing stages. After ten rounds, Crvenka are second with 25 points, Hajduk Junior are third with 21, Rusin are eighth with 14, Lipar are ninth with 13, Kula are twelfth with 10, while Mladost are fourteenth with 7 points. Next round features another local derby: Rusin and Hajduk Junior will meet in Ruski Krstur; Mladost host Slavija from Pivnice in Kruščić; Lipar visit Krila Krajine in Bačka Palanka; Crvenka visit Hercegovac in Gajdobra; and Kula visit Budućnost in Mladenovo.

KFK, the Kula Football Club, also had success. In the sixth round of the Sombor Intermunicipal League, Second Division, they beat Telečka 3:0 at home at Geder. Bogićević, Vasilik, and Radovanović scored for KFK. KFK are second in the standings with 13 points, and will travel to face Dinamo in Sonta in the next round.
In the fourth round of the First League championship, Polet’s women footballers played to a 1:1 draw at home in Sivac against Karađorđe from Topola. Selak scored Polet’s goal. Polet’s women are fourth in the standings with 6 points, and will travel to Kanjiža in the next round to face Metalmania.
Hajduk’s futsal players disappointed in the third round of the Vojvodina Futsal League championship, losing at home to Srbobran 6:3, despite taking the first half 2:1. But they faltered in the second half, which the stronger visitors took advantage of to win. Ristić, Šinka, and Mizdrak scored for Hajduk. Hajduk are tenth in the standings with 3 points, and will host APA Futsal from Apatin in the next round.
In the third round of the First Serbian League championship, Hajduk’s basketball players defeated Sveti Đorđe 84:82 away in Žitište, with the halftime score 46:38 in favor of the hosts. However, the players from Kula improved their game in the second half, won both quarters, and ultimately celebrated a deserved victory. All the Hajduk players deserve congratulations for their performance, with Bogdanović, Šljivанčanin and Rajić making a particularly striking impression. Hajduk is sixth in the standings with two wins and one loss, and will host Radnički from Kovin in the next round.
In the third round of the Second Serbian League championship, Sivac’s basketball players recorded their third win. Playing at home, the Sivac team defeated Budućnost from Novi Sad 100:71. An athletics spectacle was held over the weekend in Kula. Our town had the honor of being the first venue to host the Serbian 10-kilometer road championship. This race put Kula on Serbia’s athletics map. The men’s winner, Ognjen Stojanović, last year’s Serbian half-marathon champion, said he was pleased with his placing, but not with his result:
“Of course, every win is welcome, including this one, but the result could have been much better. My main task now is to gradually improve my form so that I am ready for the challenges ahead.”
In the women’s category, the winner was a legend of Serbian athletics, Olivera Jevtić. Jevtić said she was pleased with her result and that this was just another in a series of successful performances:
“As athletics fans know, a week ago I won the Zagreb Marathon. I’m glad I came to Kula. It’s always a pleasure to come here to run, and I hope to see you again next year at the Anniversary Friendship Race.”
Zdravko Mišović, one of the race organizers, is pleased with today’s race. Although there were some shortcomings, particularly in terms of audience turnout, Mišović is optimistic about the challenges ahead:
“This race rightly bears the epithet ‘historic,’ since this is the first-ever championship in Serbia in this discipline. The public turnout is not at a satisfactory level, but next year is the jubilee tenth Friendship Race, which will push boundaries, so everything that was not great today will exceed all expectations at the Friendship Race. It is worth noting that our competitor, Mikloš Bruner, placed among the top ten, thereby living up to expectations.”
To sum up, the organization and the competition itself went very smoothly. As the organizers noted, this championship is a prelude and baptism of fire for the landmark Friendship Race, which will be held next year. So, we’ll hold the organizers to their word and see how it turns out.
