BREAKING THE LOSING STREAK

Crvenka’s handball players beat Loznica 30:23 in front of their home fans in the 15 round of the Super B League championship; the half-time score was 15:11. After three consecutive defeats, Radisav Kovačević’s team thus recorded their first spring victory and improved their prospects in the fight to stay in the league.

“A very important win for restoring the team’s confidence, because three consecutive defeats were certainly unpleasant. But we have got past that, and now we are looking ahead to the next matches with much greater optimism,” said Crvenka’s coach Radosav Kovačević.

Crvenka's top scorer was captain Dragiša Račić with 11 goals scored. Crvenka are eighth in the standings with 11 points, and now have a three-week break ahead of them. Crvenka are idle in the next round, followed by a break for the Easter holidays, so they will not play their match against Kikinda in Kikinda until after Easter.

AND NOW, THE “LIONS”

Sivac's handball players secured a valuable win in Jabuka, defeating Dolovo 25:17 in a match in the 14 round of the First League, with the halftime score at 12:8. With this win, the players from Sivac properly avenged their autumn draw with Dolovo in Crvenka. Once again, the most prolific player for Sivac was Marko Čabai with 11 goals. Sivac 69 is second in the standings with 21 point, and in the next round hosts the league leaders, Bačka Palanka's Lavovi.

“We are sticking to our plan of taking it one match at a time. We started the championship fully committed, recorded three consecutive wins, and took advantage of the leaders’ slip-up. Now we are breathing right down their necks. We will do everything we can, with the help of our fans, to ‘tame’ the Lions and take over top spot,” says the coach of Sivac’s handball team. Branko Žeželj.

The match between second-placed Sivac and the league leaders Lavovi was supposed to be played this weekend, but the Vojvodina Handball Association accepted Lavovi’s request to postpone the match because they are playing away in Luxembourg. The season’s derby—at least, that is what the people of Sivac will be hoping for—will most likely be played on 7 April.

WOMEN’S HANDBALL TEAM RESTS

Our other first-league team, Laki, had this weekend off. The young women from Crvenka were supposed to play Želja in Žabalj on Friday, but the home team requested that the match be postponed due to bad weather, so the Želja–Laki match will be played in Žabalj on 3 April. This weekend, Laki were due to host leaders Sloven from Ruma, but the visitors requested a postponement, so that match will be played at a later date. Laki are currently fifth in the table with 15 points and a game in hand.

SNOW HALTS THE SERBIAN LEAGUE

After two consecutive wins, Odžaci, who compete in the Serbian League, Vojvodina Group, and are based in Kula, were due to visit Pančevo last weekend to play Železničar. In the first two rounds, Odžaci first beat Radnički in Šid 5:0, then Dunav from Stari Banovci in Kula 5:1, and with 28 points they are currently seventh in the league table.
