Weekend sports roundup

In the penultimate round of the Serbian League, Vojvodina group, Hajduk defeated Feniks 3:1 away in Stara Pazova, keeping alive their hopes of retaining their Serbian League status. Hajduk took the lead through the young Vlaisavljević in the 9 minute, and Matijašević scored the team from Kula’s second goal late in the first half, sending the teams into the break with Hajduk two goals ahead. When Matijašević put Hajduk 3:0 ahead in the 64 minute, it was clear the points would go to Kula. Feniks scored a consolation goal before the end, so the match finished with a 3:1 victory for Hajduk. Hajduk are currently thirteenth in the standings with 36 points. Their current position would see them relegated, but one round remains, which will determine whether the Kula side will play in the Serbian League next season as well. Unfortunately, it is not entirely in their hands. In the final round, Hajduk host league champions Vršac and must win, while their direct rival in the fight to stay up, Radnički from Zrenjanin, must not beat Kikinda in Kikinda.

The twenty-eighth round of the Sombor District League championship was unsuccessful for the teams from our municipality. In fact, three of our teams did not score a single goal. Crvenka's footballers, arguably the most pleasant surprise of the spring half of the championship, lost 5:0 away to the home team, Bratstvo, with the halftime score 3:0. The defeat is hardly surprising, as Bratstvo are the league's strongest side, a team that secured promotion to a higher division long ago. The fact that Crvenka did not attach too much importance to the match is confirmed by the fact that two regular first-team players, captain Subotić and dependable Kerekeš, remained on the bench. Rusin from Ruski Krstur lost 2:0 away to Budućnost in Gložan, with the halftime score 1:0. Lipar also lost by the same score to ŽAK in Sombor. Lipar were reduced to ten men in the 28 minute when Živko was sent off. They held out for an hour, before the home team converted their numerical advantage into goals in the 60 and 74 minutes. Rusin are currently fourth in the table with 52 points, Crvenka are eleventh with 36, and Lipar are thirteenth with 33 points. In the next round, Rusin host Polet from Karavukovo in Ruski Krstur, Crvenka host Naša Zvezda from Silbaš, and Lipar welcome Budućnost from Mladenovo in front of their home fans.

Of our three representatives in the first division of the Sombor Intermunicipal League, only Mladost from Kruščić recorded a win. In front of their home fans, Kruščić took a 6:0 lead over bottom-placed Graničar from Riđica when the match was abandoned because the Riđica team no longer had enough players on the field. Before the match was stopped, Grdinić had scored a hat trick for Mladost, while Holovati, Gačević and Vuković had scored one goal each. The other two representatives from the Municipality of Kula were playing away. Kula disappointed, losing 3:0 away to Dinamo in Bački Breg, who were second from bottom in the table, while Sivac’s Polet lost 5:0 to league leaders Hajduk in Stapar. Kula are currently fourth in the table with 45, Polet are sixth with 35, and Mladost are ninth with 28 points. The final round will feature a municipal derby, as Polet and Mladost from Kruščić meet in Sivac, while Kula will host OFK Odžaci at the Geder stadium.

The Rusin Handball Club from Ruski Krstur hosted the first International Mini Handball Tournament yesterday. Twelve teams took part in the showcase for the youngest handball players, and two teams from the Republic of Croatia—one from Ilok and one from Slavonski Brod—gave the tournament its international character. Alongside them, the participating teams were Kolubara from Lazarevac, teams from Bački Monoštor, Bački Brestovac, Odžaci and Kruščić, Sloven from Ruma, the Crvenka club Laki, the Rastimo Handball School from Novi Sad, and, of course, the hosts, members of the Rusin Handball Club. A mini handball team consists of four players and a goalkeeper, and matches last ten minutes. More than a hundred boys and girls demonstrated the beauty of playing handball, and it was a real pleasure to see how passionately they competed. That is why they were all winners, and the captains of the teams participating in the first International Mini Handball Tournament were presented with commemorative plaques from the Handball Federation of Vojvodina by former national team player Zlata Paplacko and Ivan Mandić, secretary of the Handball Federation of Vojvodina.
