Crvenka handball players lose at home to Red Star

Crvenka’s handball players disappointed their supporters, losing 36:30 at home to Belgrade’s Crvena Zvezda in the second round of the ARKUS Super League relegation playoffs, reducing their chances of staying in the handball elite to a theoretical possibility. The first half was evenly matched, mostly goal for goal, and Crvena Zvezda won that period 16:15. When it was expected that Crvenka’s handball players would raise the pace in the second half, the opposite happened: they simply stopped, played without any desire or fighting spirit, and their defense was virtually nonexistent. They suffered a painful defeat that will most likely cost the “squirrels” their place in the Serbian ARKUS Super League. Vuk Perović and Čabrilo were Crvenka’s top scorers, with six goals each. Crvenka are last in the ARKUS Super League relegation group standings with 4 points, and in the next round, on 20 or 21 March, they host Obilić from Belgrade.

Speaking of handball, let us also mention that last weekend the Sivac men's handball team and the Laki women's team from Crvenka had a break. In the 12 round of the Super B League, Sivac were supposed to host Kolubara from Lazarevac, but because several players had contracted coronavirus, the Lazarevac team requested that the match be postponed. The Sivac 69–Kolubara match will therefore be played on 23 March in Sivac.

The young Crvenka handball players, the Laki team, were scheduled to visit Srpska Crnja in the 10 round of the Serbian First League championship and play against the hosts, the Mladost team. However, the coronavirus is the reason this match was also postponed, and the clubs will decide when it will be played.
The spring football season began in the best possible way for clubs from the Municipality of Kula.

In the spring season opener in the Serbian League, Vojvodina group, Hajduk beat Stari Grad 1:0 away in Bačka Palanka. Hajduk’s winning goal was scored by Matijević in the 12 minute, from the penalty spot, after a home player brought down Hajduk striker Miloš Manojlović in his own penalty area. Hajduk could have added a few more goals in the second half: in the 77 minute, Miloš Manojlović hit the crossbar, and in the 88 minute Vujović also had a chance but failed to beat the Stari Grad goalkeeper. After their win in Bačka Palanka, Hajduk are eleventh in the table with 28 points, and will host Omladinac from Novi Banovci in the next round in Kula.

Crvenka’s footballers also had a successful spring season opener in the Vojvodina League, North group. Crvenka hosted Srbobran at the “Milorad Džomba” stadium and won 1:0. Coach Milan Vujaković’s players were better in every aspect of the game. Experienced players Zelić and Subotić controlled the midfield and fed the speedy Kerekeš and Babić with precise passes. It was from one such move, set up by Kerekeš, that Babić scored Crvenka’s winning goal. After 18 rounds of the season, Crvenka are fifteenth in the table with 18 points, and will travel to Sombor to face Radnički in the next, 19 round.

A fine spring start by our football teams was rounded off by Rusin from Ruski Krstur, who beat hosts Kulpin 3:1 away in the opening round of the Sombor District League’s second half of the season. Rac scored in the first half to give Rusin the lead, which Danojević and Sajanković extended in the second half to an unassailable 3:0. Rusin’s players then eased off, allowing Kulpin to score a consolation goal for the final score of 3:1 in Rusin’s favor. Rusin have 35 points and currently sit fourth in the Sombor District League standings. In the next round, they host Maglić from Bački Maglić.

Other sports news follows

In the second round of the First Serbian League playoff, Hajduk's basketball team won away in Stara Pazova, defeating the home team, Stara Pazova, 77:74. Hajduk made a great start, winning the first quarter 29:15, and went into halftime with an eight-point lead, the score 46:38 in Hajduk's favor. Hajduk entered the final quarter eight points ahead. Stara Pazova managed to get back into the game and even take the lead, but in a tense finish Hajduk kept their cool and deservedly recorded their seventh consecutive win. Hajduk's top performers were Škrbić, who scored 27 points, Tešović with 17, and Bajić with 15 points. In the playoff group, Hajduk have five wins and 3 losses. In the next round they host Nova Pazova in Kula, confident they will record their eighth consecutive victory.

The Hajduk volleyball players also contributed to the success of Kula's sports teams last weekend, defeating Vrbas 3:0 in sets in the 12 round of the First Vojvodina League championship, in a local derby. The Hajduk players earned their sixth consecutive victory very convincingly, as the set scores attest. In the first set, Hajduk conceded just 9 points to Vrbas, and thirteen in each of the second and third sets, which says enough about the difference in quality in favor of the Kula team. Hajduk lead the table with 32 points, and in the next round they travel to face Mladost in Turija.
Unlike Hajduk’s football, basketball and volleyball teams, which recorded wins last weekend, Hajduk’s futsal players were unsuccessful. In round 13 of the Vojvodina Futsal League, Hajduk Futsal Club hosted Tango from Novi Sad, who outplayed them, winning 6:1; the half-time score was 1:0 in favor of the visitors. Hajduk’s consolation goal was scored by Nemanja Isakov. Hajduk’s futsal players have earned thirteen points in the previous 13 rounds, and will travel to Subotica to face Spartak in the next round.
