Crvenka handball players have returned to training after almost two months off. After just three rounds of the spring championship had been played, the handball season was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic and the declaration of a state of emergency. Once the state of emergency was lifted, the Board of the Handball Federation of Serbia decided to cancel the competition. However, the Federation’s Board decided to expand the Super A League, with the expansion to be arranged through a playoff involving Super B League clubs interested in taking part.
Handball Club Crvenka is interested in taking part in the playoff, which is why the team is training. According to Crvenka coach Vladimir Zejak, his players have been together for three weeks already. When they began training, it was clear that some of the players had also trained at home during the state of emergency and arrived in good shape, while others had let themselves go considerably. There is still enough time before the playoff begins to make up for what was missed because of the state of emergency and the inability to train together.
As for the playoff, Handball Club Crvenka had hoped that the Board of the Handball Federation of Serbia would decide to expand the Super A League. Since they had also harbored the highest ambitions in the cancelled season—namely, promotion to the Super A League—they began training even before the decision to expand the league was made, so they would be as prepared as possible for the playoff matches. One unknown is that the playoff participants have not yet been announced. Applications to take part in the playoff are open from 29. May to 6. June, after which the number of participants and the match dates will be known.
