Last weekend was very successful for our sports teams

We’ve had a busy weekend of sports, marked by victories for Sivac’s handball players as well as successes for Hajduk’s basketball and volleyball teams.

Sivac's handball players delighted their fans: in the 9 round of the Serbian Super B League championship, they thrashed Lavovi away in Bačka Palanka, winning 32:19, with the halftime score at 12:9 for Sivac 69. Branko Žeželj's team got off to a brilliant start, taking a 4:0 lead and going five goals up in the closing stages of the first half, but allowed the hosts back into the match, so there was a little uncertainty until the 37 minute, when the score was 15:13 for Sivac. Lavovi had a chance to get within one goal, but Sivac goalkeeper Bogojević saved a one-on-one chance. Sivac then scored a run of 3:0 to go five goals up, after which the hosts literally gave up, and the Sivac handball players' lead grew minute by minute to a final margin of 13. Sivac's top scorers were Čabai with 7 and Žegarac with 6 goals. Sivac goalkeeper Nikola Bogojević, who also got on the scoresheet, was named player of the match. Sivac 69 are currently sixth in the table with 9 points, and in the next round they visit bottom-placed Jedinstvo in Novi Bečej.

Hajduk’s basketball team secured the expected victory in the 13 round of the First Serbian League championship, beating A.J. Come to Play from Novi Sad 88:82 at home. It was a match that would decide nothing, as Hajduk will enter the playoffs and the team from Novi Sad will play in the relegation playoff, so the points from their head-to-head match were not important—and this was reflected in Hajduk’s performance. It seemed they had gone into the game thinking it would be easy, which nearly backfired. A.J. Come to Play arrived in Kula with only five players, yet were four points ahead at halftime, 44:40, and had a seven-point lead going into the final ten minutes. But they ran out of energy in the last quarter, which Hajduk’s basketball players took advantage of to record the expected victory. Hajduk’s top scorer was Škrbić with 24 points.

Hajduk’s basketball team are third in the standings with 9 wins and 4 losses, and in the next round they travel to Topola in Bačka Topola.

Hajduk’s volleyball team secured a valuable victory in the 9 round of the First Vojvodina League championship, beating Klek Srbij šume 2 from Klek 3:0 in sets at home. It was the round’s derby, as second-placed Hajduk faced third-placed Klek. The team from Kula made the most of home-court advantage and deservedly won. Hajduk’s volleyball players took the first set 25:21, were even more convincing in the second, winning it 25:17, while the third set was the closest, with Hajduk winning it by a two-point margin, 29:27. They secured a 3:0 victory and added three points, taking the top spot in the table with 23 points, although they have played one more match. Hajduk’s volleyball players host last-placed Botafogo from Novi Sad in the next round.

Football teams used the weekend to play friendly matches, as the race for points is about to begin.

On Saturday, Serbian League side Hajduk lost 4:2 to Tisa from Adorjan in a friendly match. Macanović and Matijević scored for Hajduk. Hajduk's footballers will have another fitness test as soon as Wednesday, when they play Mladost in Turija.

The Vojvodina League team Crvenka will have a test of their readiness tomorrow, when they play a friendly match against Iskra in Kucura.

The Sombor Intermunicipal League First Division teams were in action yesterday. Mladost and Lipar faced off in Kruščić. Lipar won 4:1. Nestorović scored two goals for Lipar, with Vuković and Novaković scoring one each, while Šuković scored for Mladost. Lipar’s footballers will play their next friendly on Sunday, when they host Jadran from Feketić in Lipar. Sivac’s Polet also played a friendly yesterday. In a local derby, Polet defeated Kordun 4:2 in Kljajićevo. Romić and Marković scored two goals each for Polet. The players from Sivac will play their next friendly on Sunday, when they host ŽAK from Sombor.
