The past sports weekend was all about handball and basketball.
Crvenka handball players have now recorded their tenth defeat in the Serbian ARKUS Super League. Playing at home, they lost to Dinamo from Pančevo 32:25, with the visitors leading 14:11 at halftime. Even before this match, it was clear that Crvenka faced a very tough task: their squad was incomplete, while their visitors were a team regarded, alongside Vojvodina, as a contender for trophies. Dinamo lived up to their status as favorites and won deservedly. As usual, Vladimir Zejak’s players held their own in the first half until the 23 minute, when the score was 10:9 in Dinamo’s favor. The visitors then scored four goals in the next four minutes, while Crvenka scored none, and the winner was decided. Crvenka’s top scorer was pivot Karanović with 6 goals. In the next round, Crvenka will travel to Kikinda.
Sivac handball players, members of the Super B League, failed to reach the Vojvodina Cup final after losing last night to Proleter from Zrenjanin, a member of the Serbian ARKUS Super League, in the semifinal played in Sivac. The score was 41:34, with Proleter leading 21:13 at halftime. After the score reached 5:5 in the seventh minute, Proleter scored 5:0 unanswered goals over the next four minutes, broke the game open and then secured a place in the Vojvodina Cup final with a routine performance. Sivac’s top scorers were Čabai with 12 goals and Beslać with 9. After last night’s match, Sivac’s handball players are taking a break and will resume the season in February, when the Super B League resumes.
Hajduk’s basketball players had reason to celebrate: in the tenth round of the First Serbian League, they beat Omadinac of Novi Banovci 97:86 away in Stara Pazova, even though the home team had taken the first half 44:43. Hajduk were without their injured captain Škrbić, and as early as the fifth minute they also lost Šljivанčanin, who broke his nose. According to Hajduk coach Danilo Borović, the game was decided in the third quarter, which Hajduk won 24:16. Jokanović was Hajduk’s best and most prolific player, scoring 35 points; Nikola Lješević and Tešović scored 15 each, and Marinković 12. This win gives Hajduk’s basketball players a significant boost ahead of their next game, when they host Joker of Sombor in Kula. Joker have won every game so far this season.
