The past weekend in sports was marked by victories for Hajduk’s footballers and Sivac’s handball team

Hajduk’s footballers defeated Omladinac from Novi Banovci 2:0 at home in Kula in the 10 round of the Serbian League, Vojvodina group. Despite numerous squad problems, Kula coach Željko Račić’s excellent tactical setup neutralized the visitors’ trademark style of play. They had more possession in the first half, but the disciplined performance of the entire team blunted Omladinac’s attack, and the teams went into the break goalless. Hajduk came out firing in the second half: in the 47 minute, Lazić created a clear-cut chance for Vlaisavljević, who mis-hit the ball from 7-8 metres out in the middle of the goal, and the opportunity went begging. Just two minutes later, Hajduk celebrated. Arežina took the corner, and at the far post Kula captain Slobodan Vuković, despite being pulled, headed the ball into the net past the helpless Ćirić. The goal gave the home side even more confidence, and in the 67 minute they doubled their lead. Mihailo Božović ran onto Masalušić’s through ball into the visitors’ penalty area; an Omladinac player brought him down, and referee Čapo pointed to the spot. This naturally prompted protests from the visitors, but it did not distract Hajduk captain Slobodan Vuković, who calmly sent the goalkeeper one way and the ball the other to make it 2:0. The overly nervous visitors continued to attack, but without success. Then, in the 71 minute, chaos erupted in front of Hajduk’s goal. Omladinac’s attack was repelled, Vujović and one of the visitors ended up in the net, and a scuffle broke out involving almost all the players. Referee Čapo resolved the situation by showing red cards to Hajduk’s Vujović and Mihailo Božović, and Omladinac’s Marković. With a numerical advantage, the visitors threw everything into trying to turn the score around, but chose the wrong approach: they sent high balls toward their forwards, all of which were easy prey for the experienced Vuković and Masalušić, whose excellent positioning protected their goal and contributed most to the well-deserved victory.

After ten rounds, Hajduk are eleventh in the standings with 10 points. Next round they travel to 1.maj Ruma in Ruma, and footage of the Hajduk–Omladinac match from Novi Banovci can be watched on KU Television tonight from 20.

The tenth round of the Sombor District League championship was marked by a municipal derby in Lipar, where the home side Lipar faced former top-flight club Crvenka. In an overly tense match featuring two red cards—shown to Crvenka player Marko Kerekeš in the 11th minute and then to Lipar player Strahinja Novaković in the 40th minute—and five yellow cards, Lipar won 1:0 thanks to a goal scored by Marko Lalić in the 77th minute. Lalić met an excellent cross and, from a few metres out at the far post, put the ball into the net to secure his team’s third consecutive win.

Our third representative in the Sombor District League, Rusin from Ruski Krstur, recorded another win, this time away from home. In Silbaš, Rusin defeated Naša Zvezda 4:1. Darko Sušić scored twice for Rusin, while Janko Kulić and Filip Vujović also scored. After ten rounds of the championship, Rusin are third in the table with 18 points, Lipar are thirteenth with 10, and Crvenka are fourteenth with 9 points. In the next round, Rusin host Kordun from Kljajićevo, Crvenka host ŽAK from Sombor, and Lipar visit Vojvodina in Tovariševo.

In the ninth round of the Sombor Intermunicipal League First Division championship, the most convincing win was achieved by Kula, who beat Omladinac from Deronje 6:0 at the Geder ground. Kula’s man of the match, Husak, scored twice, while Bortnik, Gačević, Licemberger and Nebojša Popović scored one goal each. Mladost from Kruščić also delighted their fans, beating Zadrugar 3:0 away in Srpski Miletić. Radojica Jovanović scored all three goals for Mladost. Our third representative, Polet from Sivac, lost 4:2 away to Omladinac in Bukovac. Romić and Rašković scored for Polet. Kula are currently second with 21 points, level with leaders Hajduk from Stapari; Polet are fifth with 17, and Mladost tenth with 10. In the next round, Kula visit Terekveš in Svilojevo, Polet host Zadrugar from Srpski Miletić in Sivac, and Mladost host BSK from Bački Brestovac in Kruščić.

Hajduk’s futsal team lost 5:2 away to Full Feel of Subotica, who were bottom of the Vojvodina Futsal League standings before this round, in the fourth round of the season. Following this defeat, Hajduk are now bottom of the table with three points. In the next round, Hajduk’s futsal players will host ŽAK Junior of Sombor.

Sivac’s handball players were the heroes of the sporting weekend, beating league leaders Sinđelić 29:28 away in Belgrade in the derby of round 4 of the Super B League; the halftime score was 15:14 in Sivac’s favor. Sivac coach Branko Žeželj was delighted with the win, saying his players had put in a high-intensity performance, and that their excellent defense and impenetrable goalkeeper Maksimović made up for the many attacking errors. Marko Čabai was Sivac’s top scorer with 11 goals, but young pivot Nikola Popov, who scored 5 goals, was named player of the match. Our other Super League team, Crvenka, disappointed, losing 31:30 away to Ub, with the halftime score 15:13 in Ub’s favor. Crvenka started the game well and led 10:5 in the 18 minute, but then Miloš Mitrović’s players hit what is known as a “black hole” in their play. In seven minutes, Ub went on a 7:0 run, took a two-goal lead, and then managed to hold on and secure the points. This was Crvenka’s second away defeat, so if they want to return to the top division, they must start bringing home points from away games. Bošković was Crvenka’s top scorer with 7 goals, while Tasić and Perović scored six each. After the fourth round, Sivac 69 is second in the standings with 7 points, while Crvenka is seventh with 4. Next round, Crvenka hosts league leaders Kikinda Grindex in Ruski Krstur, while Sivac welcomes Apatin to its home court.

In the fourth round of the First League championship for women’s handball, the teams from our municipality suffered defeats. League newcomer Krule lost to Proleter of Zrenjanin in Sivac, 35:20, with the score at halftime 15:7 in favor of the visitors. Proleter arrived in Sivac on a three-game winning streak and justified its status as favorite with a confident performance. Alexandra Jelenković was Krule’s top scorer, with 12 goals. Our other First League team, Laki of Crvenka, lost away to Mokrin, 30:23, with the halftime score 17:11. By the eleventh minute, Mokrin had taken a 8:1 lead and then saw out the game with a routine performance. Anželi Lovre was Laki’s top scorer, with 6 goals. After four rounds, Krule is tenth in the standings with one point, while Laki is last with no points. Next round brings a municipal derby, as Laki hosts Krule.

Hajduk’s basketball players recorded another win in the First Republic League – North group. At home, the Kula side defeated Sloven from Ruma 65:53, with the halftime score 31:23 in Hajduk’s favour. The score shows that neither team was particularly sharp in attack, but most importantly, Hajduk secured their third win. Ivan Đurović was Hajduk’s top scorer with 20, Milan Suvajdžić scored 11, and Danilo Koprivica added 10 points.

After three rounds, Hajduk’s basketball team has a perfect record of three wins. In the fourth round, they travel to Futog, who have recorded three defeats.

The volleyball season has begun for Hajduk’s men’s and women’s teams. Hajduk’s men played their opening match in the Second League, North Group, at the sports hall in Kula. Their opponents were Stražilovo from Sremski Karlovci, who won 3:0. The visitors took the first set 25:18, and the second saw a close contest, but the more experienced Stražilovo players won it 25:23. The third set was a formality, with the team from Sremski Karlovci taking it 25:11.

Hajduk’s volleyball players, new members of the First Vojvodina League, were also unsuccessful. In the opening round of the championship, Hajduk lost 3:0 in sets away to Vrbas. Vrbas won the first set 25:17, the second 25:16, and the third 25:14. Hajduk’s defeat to Vrbas was no surprise, as Hajduk is by far the youngest team in the league. The team lacks experience, which it will gain through matches, so this young sporting group certainly deserves support. The next opportunity to show that support comes in the next match, when Hajduk hosts Subotica in the Petefi Brigade Elementary School gym.

In round 5 of the First Vojvodina League, Hajduk’s bowlers lost to the home team, Golubinci, while visiting Golubinci, with a score of 5:3 in points and 3210:3176 in total pins knocked down. Hajduk’s points were earned by Branko Vuksan with 567, Vladimir Trišić with 542, and Milorad Radošević with 515 pins knocked down. Hajduk are currently fourth in the standings with 6 points. In the next round, they will host Bačka from Novi Sad in Vrbas.
