The most pleasant surprise of the past weekend came from Hajduk’s footballers, who defeated Borac 5:1 away in Šajkaš in the 20 round of the Serbian League Vojvodina Group. The result reflects the excellent performance by Željko Račić’s team, who capped it with a convincing victory and are making increasingly rapid progress toward the middle of the table. After just 20 minutes of play, Hajduk were leading 2:0, having scored through Matijašević and Vlaisavljević. Late in the first half, Matijašević scored his second goal to extend their lead, and the teams went into the break with Hajduk ahead 3:0. The “Hajduks” were not satisfied with that lead, and goals by Damjanović and Vlaisavljević in the second half put them 5:0 ahead after an hour of play. The hosts did manage to score a consolation goal late in the match, making the final score 5:1 in Hajduk’s favor. The Kula side are currently twelfth in the table with 20 points and will host bottom-placed Jedinstvo from Stara Pazova in the next round.
All three of our representatives recorded wins in round 20 of the Sombor District League championship. Crvenka beat BSK from Obrovac 4:1 at home, with the halftime score 2:0. Kerekeš scored twice for Crvenka, while Jovanović and Čvokić scored one each. Lipar beat Polet from Karavukovo 4:3 at home. When the teams went into the break with Lipar leading 3:0, it seemed that Lipar would win convincingly, as they also had an extra player on the field after visiting player Stošić was sent off in the 23 minute. However, the Karavukovo side managed to equalize in the second half in just six minutes, and experienced Šegan secured all three points for his team with a penalty. Along with Šegan, who scored a second goal in addition to the winner, Marčetić and Đukić also scored for Lipar. Rusin from Ruski Krstur recorded a valuable win away in Tovariševo, beating Vojvodina 2:1. The Krstur side took the lead through Branković, but the hosts capitalized on a mistake by experienced goalkeeper Kronić to equalize, and the teams went into the break level at 1:1. Rusin secured victory in the 65 minute, when Marković hit the post with a free kick and Janko Kulić put the rebound into the net for the final score of 2:1 to Rusin. Rusin are currently fourth in the table with 40, Lipar are eleventh with 24, and Crvenka are fourteenth with 21 points. Next round features a municipal derby, as Rusin and Lipar meet in Ruski Krstur, while Crvenka travel to face BSK in Bački Gračac.
In the derby of round 17 of the Sombor Intermunicipal League First Division championship, Kula’s footballers beat Hajduk from Stapari 1:0 at the Geder. The visitors had a couple of good chances in the first half but failed to convert them, and in the second half the hosts punished them with the winning goal, scored by Viktor Licemberger. Sivac’s Polet beat Omladinac 3:1 away in Deronje, thanks to a hat-trick by the experienced Romić. Our third representative, Mladost from Kruščić, drew 2:2 away against Terekveš in Svilajevo, and Holovati scored both goals for Mladost. After the seventeenth round, Kula are third in the table with 37 points, Polet are fourth with 34, and Mladost are ninth with twenty-one. The next round will feature a municipal derby, as Mladost and Kula meet in Kruščić, while Polet host Terekveš from Svilajevo in Sivac.
All four of our handball teams won over the past weekend.
In the 17 round of the Super B League, Crvenka’s handball players hosted Voždovac from Belgrade after renovations to their home arena. Their superior performance culminated in a win as they defeated Voždovac 35:28, with the halftime score 17:13.
The most effective player for Crvenka in the win over Voždovac was Bošković, who scored 14 goals and was named player of the match.
Sivac 69 hosted the strong team from Ub in front of their home fans and earned a valuable 36:32 victory. In the first half, burdened by the need to win, Sivac’s handball players played nervously, which the visitors took advantage of, going nine goals ahead in the 23 minute: the score then stood at 13:4 for Ub. After Sivac coach Branko Žeželj called a timeout, his players tightened up their defense and became more effective in attack, cutting Ub’s commanding lead with a run of 8:0, so the teams went into the break with the visitors just one goal ahead. The second half was goal for goal, until late in the match, with Sivac leading 33:31, the home team scored through Čabai, Vemić, and Kolarić to go five goals ahead, a deficit the visitors from Ub could not overcome. Marko Čabai was Sivac’s top scorer with 10 goals and was named player of the match. After seventeen rounds, Crvenka are sixth in the table with 18, while Sivac 69 are eighth with 14 points. In the next round, Crvenka will visit Vrbas, while Sivac 69 will visit league leaders Kikinda.
In round 17 of the First League championship for women’s handball, both of our teams won. Krule recorded a convincing win in Sivac, beating bottom-placed Mokrin 33:17, with the halftime score 20:10. When Sivac’s handball players took a 16:4 lead in the 20 minute, it was clear who would take the points. Alexandra Jelenković was Krule’s top scorer with 10 goals. Crvenka women’s handball club Laki hosted Ravangrad from Sombor and recorded a 36:20 win, with the halftime score 17:9 in Laki’s favor. The visitors from Sombor were evenly matched for the first fifteen minutes, when the score was 6:6. Then Laki’s players scored a run of 5:0, and as the match progressed, their lead grew to a final sixteen-goal margin. Marija Ivić was Laki’s top scorer with 9 goals. Sivac’s Krule are currently seventh in the table with 13, while Laki are eleventh with 8 points. Next round, Sivac’s Krule travel to face Ravangrad in Sombor, while Crvenka’s Laki visit Temerin.
Hajduk’s basketball players are keeping up their winning streak. In the sixth round of the Serbian First Regional League playoff, they recorded their sixth win. In front of their home fans, they defeated Stara Pazova 94:74, with the halftime score 51:38. Danilo Borović’s team was better in every aspect of the game, controlled both play and the score, and deservedly won.
Hajduk’s basketball players are second in the table with a record of nine wins and three losses, and travel to Vrbas next round.
