Celebrating New Crvenka Day and Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag Day in the spirit of togetherness and freedom

The celebration of New Crvenka Day, which also served as the central municipal event marking Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag Day, was held today with wreath-laying at the monument to the Salonika volunteers and a memorial service for participants in the liberation wars from 1912 to 1918. On behalf of the Municipality of Kula, a wreath was laid by municipal president Damjan Miljanić, accompanied by the host, Milorad Tunguz, president of the New Crvenka Local Community Council. Grateful descendants of the Salonika volunteers laid a wreath on behalf of New Crvenka residents, and members of the “Prince Mihailo” Gendarmerie Veterans’ Association from Kula also laid a wreath. The memorial service for the Salonika volunteers and founders of New Crvenka, accompanied by an appropriate address, was conducted by Father Miloš Petrović, head of the Church of St. Sava in Crvenka. After the wreath-laying, the president of the Municipality of Kula and the president of the New Crvenka Local Community Council addressed the guests and residents. Members of the Crvenka Cultural Center folk ensemble then performed a cultural program. Lunch for all guests was served at the renovated Pensioners’ Club in New Crvenka.

On the occasion of today’s holiday, President Miljanić noted that it was entirely logical for the central event marking the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag in our municipality to be held in Nova Crvenka, given that the Salonika volunteers founded Nova Crvenka.
“The people of Novo Crvenka declared this the day of their town, and since it is also a national holiday, it is only logical that the central event for our municipality should take place in Novo Crvenka, one of our smallest communities, but one with a tradition and a story of freedom embodied by the Salonika volunteers. It is an opportunity to commemorate and remember the fact that throughout history, the Serbian people have always fought for freedom. Whether it was the First or Second World War, the 1990s, or the ongoing struggle for our people’s freedom in various territories, this seems to be our destiny. We will surely fulfill that destiny, and there is no doubt that, as throughout history, we will prevail,” said Miljanić.

The celebration of New Crvenka Day will conclude tonight with a concert for young people, which will begin at 19.
