Expanded list of young farmers who will receive subsidies

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management informs applicants that the list of young farmers who will receive subsidies this year has been expanded: instead of 2500 farmers under the age of 40, 3000 applicants are now eligible for a subsidy.

Additional funding has been secured thanks to the understanding of the Ministry of Finance and the Government of Serbia that investment in start-ups and young people in rural areas is necessary.

As announced in the call for applications, young farmers will receive up to 1.500.000 dinars in advance and must account for the funds within 90 days of payment. Their contribution is 25%. Through this measure, the Ministry of Agriculture sought to highlight the need to improve the economic position of rural women and young people in general.

Young people from areas with poorer economic conditions in our country were also given priority in the competition. As Minister Branislav Nedimović announced earlier, funds for this type of incentive are also earmarked for 2021. However, all suggestions from the Association of Young Farmers of Serbia will first be considered to ensure the money is distributed as efficiently and fairly as possible.

As for the amount allocated per producer, the maximum grant of one and a half million dinars can be used to buy equipment such as seed drills, disc harrows, harrows, rotary tillers and other agricultural machinery. It can also be invested in planting material for establishing orchards, or used to buy a flock of sheep or goats, as well as high-quality dairy cows or cattle for fattening. Applications covered a wide range of needs, but there is an obvious trend toward investment in livestock farming, vegetable growing and fruit growing, which the relevant ministry welcomes.

An additional 500 young farmers can expect the money to be deposited into their accounts in two months, while everyone else can expect payment into their accounts in the coming days.
For two consecutive years, the Ministry of Agriculture held calls for applications, awarding funds to around 2000 young farmers. In the third year, twice as much funding was approved as in the previous two years combined. A record 5500 young farmers applied.
