Although the Handball Federation of Serbia Board’s decision in early July stipulated that the playoffs to fill league places were to be completed by 6 September for the Super League and by 13 September for lower-tier competitions, the dates have been postponed due to the unfavourable epidemiological situation.
The Competition Committee of the Handball Federation of Serbia made a preliminary decision on the format of play, as well as setting new dates. The candidates for promotion to the top men’s division from the North-Center group—Morava from Velika Plana, Jugović from Kać, and Crvenka—will play each other once, on 12, 16, and 20 September. After paying a deposit of 400 thousand dinars, these teams will be assigned competition letters (A, B, C). The first match is scheduled for 12 September, between A and B; on 16 September, B and C will meet; and on 20 September, C and A. This means that each of the three teams will host one match in front of its own fans.
Three teams entered the competition to fill a place in the First League North for women: Ruma, Ravangrad from Sombor, and Laki from Crvenka. Each team will play the others once. The first match is scheduled for 19 September, between A and B; on 23 September, B will play C; and on 27 September, C will play A. This means that each of the three teams will host once in front of its home crowd, provided, of course, that the epidemiological situation improves and spectators are allowed.
Moving the dates of the promotion/relegation playoffs will also delay the start of the new championship. We will therefore most likely have to wait until 3 October for the start of the Arkus League, instead of the originally planned 19 or 20 September.
