A book launch for “Mother Russia,” a collection of poems by Uglješa Slijepčević, was held at the premises of the Kula Local Pensioners’ Association. The launch was organized by the Serbian-Russian Friendship Association “Srce” and the Patriotic Club. At the very beginning, the guests were welcomed by toastmaster Božidar Boško Miljanić. The author, along with one of the reviewers, Milan Anđelić, and journalist Đorđo Bojanić, spoke about the book. In addition to Anđelić, the reviewers of the book are writer and academician Matija Bećković and writer and journalist Pero Zubac. The author of “Mother Russia,” Uglješa Slijepčević, said that the book is a tribute of sorts to the symbiosis between the Serbian and Russian peoples and everything that has connected them through the centuries: “My grandfather and uncle survived the Albanian Golgotha, thanks to Tsar Nicholas II Romanov, as did all of Serbia. In his honor, and of course because of the love I feel for the Russian people, I wrote this collection of poems. It is not a book about Russia, but a book about the symbiosis between the Serbian and Russian peoples. In other words, about what has bound us together for centuries: language, faith, script, culture and history. Without the Russian people, our people would not exist either, and that is why we must nurture and cherish this bond as the apple of our eye.”
