All households in Serbia that want to get connected to gas will be able to do so on more favorable terms from 1 July, as Srbijagas previously decided to reduce the connection fee for households to 780 euros, with the option of paying in installments.
From 1. July, the connection fee will be reduced to 780 euros including VAT and can be paid in instalments over three years interest-free as part of the monthly bill. Connecting to gas currently costs between 1.000 and 1.500 euros.
Experts point out that greater use of gas brings economic and environmental benefits in addition to energy benefits.
Vojislav Vuletić of the Serbian Gas Association says that gas is the cheapest fuel and that natural gas appliances are designed to operate at high efficiency, which means lower consumption.
Vuletić told Tanjug that Serbia started using gas very late and that now only about 300.000 households use this energy source, a very small number compared with European countries.
He points out that gas is the cheapest option for widespread use everywhere in the world and that countries are greatly interested in increasing its use.
He cites Italy as an example, where citizens are able to get a gas connection for free. As for the gas network, only six districts in Serbia are fully supplied with gas.
The “Balkan Stream” gas pipeline is expected to speed up the gasification of the country as well.
