Nova Crvenka celebrates its town day

Residents of Nova Crvenka and their guests celebrated the day of their village today. Guests and locals gathered in front of the monument in the village centre to lay a wreath at the monument to the Salonika volunteers and commemorate those who took part in the wars of liberation from 1912 to 1918.

Traditionally, the rest of the celebrations for Village Day continued at the Cultural Center with welcoming speeches by the president of the municipality and the president of the Local Community Council. This was followed by a cultural program, after which lunch was served to all the guests celebrating Nova Crvenka Day, and the day ended with a concert for young people. This year, the current epidemiological situation did not allow this. Damjan Miljanić, President of the Municipality of Kula, said that Nova Crvenka is a unique place where volunteers from the First World War and the Salonika Front were settled, and that from this year it is also a national holiday and the central event for the entire Municipality. Nova Crvenka Day was celebrated a little differently, but no less ceremoniously, and we hope that from next year it will be celebrated with more local residents first and foremost, followed by people from across our Municipality, President Miljanić said. He added that Father Miloš delivered a fitting address on the occasion, while pupils laid a wreath, and that the entire Municipality was decorated with national flags.

Milorad Tunguz, Chair of the Nova Crvenka Local Community Council, noted that due to the current epidemiological situation, the program had been significantly shortened compared with previous years and limited to a religious service and refreshments. He hopes that conditions will allow the Day of the Community to be properly celebrated next year, bearing in mind that the same day is marked as the state holiday of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag. Tunguz said that the Local Community’s plans include extending the water supply network, namely replacing asbestos pipes, opening a mixed-age group at the kindergarten, renovating the Pensioners’ Club, and many other projects.
