The unfavorable epidemiological situation is also affecting sporting events

The unfavorable epidemiological situation has had a considerable impact on sporting events, as due to the Covid 19 pandemic, sports competitions took place without the people they are intended for—the spectators—and many competitions were also suspended. This has affected volleyball, handball and bowling, as well as sports clubs in our municipality. The Hajduk Volleyball Club competes in the First Vojvodina League and, after six rounds played, is second in the standings. Hajduk’s volleyball players played their last league match on 21 November, after which volleyball competitions were suspended until 11 December. Since the epidemiological situation has not improved, volleyball remains on hold until further notice. As for handball, the only competition to conclude as planned was the ARKUS Super League of Serbia, in which Crvenka’s handball players compete. The Super B League, in which Sivac’s handball players compete, was suspended after eight rounds, as was the First League for Women, in which the Laki Handball Club competes. The race for points in these leagues is expected to resume in mid-February next year.

Hajduk’s bowlers are in the most difficult position. They compete in the Serbian First League—Vojvodina Group and have played just five of the nine league matches scheduled for the new season. This is because several Hajduk bowlers tested positive for COVID and had to self-isolate, and because the entire ninth round was not played. Hajduk’s bowlers must play their postponed matches before the start of the spring half of the championship, which is scheduled for February. Hajduk’s bowlers are currently last in the standings, with five losses from five matches played. According to coach Duško Adžić, one reason for this record is an incomplete squad, as three regular players—Mirko Bakić, Marko Eraković and Vladimir Trišić—have not played. Adžić expects them to return to the team and the players who tested positive for COVID to join training after self-isolation, and therefore believes results will improve.
