There will be no online entrance exam for gifted students, contrary to the earlier announcement; instead, the exam will be held at schools, as in previous years, once the epidemiological situation with the new coronavirus improves, the Ministry of Education says.
Students are currently registering to take entrance exams for admission to specialized high school departments—mathematics, languages, IT and others—as well as for art schools—music, ballet and visual arts.
The Ministry of Education’s statement noted that students interested in enrolling in specialized classes had completed a survey about the conditions under which the entrance exam could be taken from home.
It was concluded that not all students have the equipment needed to take the exam remotely, and that around 10 percent of the students registered so far are unable to take the entrance exam online.
“To uphold one of the basic principles of education—that education should be equally accessible to all students throughout Serbia—the Ministry will conduct these examinations in the usual way once epidemiological risks have been reduced to the lowest possible level,” the statement said.
They say that by then, secondary schools will have access to information about the number of interested students and proposed ways to organize free online preparatory classes.
