Sports weekend preview

The sports weekend in the municipality of Kula will begin this evening, with Hajduk's basketball and futsal teams opening the program.

In the fifth round of the Serbian Regional League – North Group, Hajduk’s basketball team will host Sveti Đorđe from Žitište. Kula are clear favourites: so far this season, they have a record of 3 wins and one loss, while the team from Žitište has recorded just one win. Given this and the fact that Hajduk’s basketball players will have the support of the home crowd, a win should be all but certain. The Hajduk–Sveti Đorđe match from Žitište will be played tonight in the Petefi Brigade Primary School gym and will start at 18 hours and 30 minutes.

In the sixth round of the Vojvodina Futsal League, Hajduk's futsal players will travel to Novi Banovci, where they will face Omadinac this evening at 19 hours and 15 minutes.

The sixth round of the Super B League championship is scheduled for this weekend. Sivac’s handball players host newcomers to the league, the Belgrade team Lavovi, in front of their home supporters. The visitors are an experienced team, as former Super League clubs Vrbas and Kolubara have learned the hard way, which shows that Sivac’s handball players will not have an easy time of it. But since they are playing on their home court, with expected support from the stands, coach Branko Žeželј’s players are confident they can claim their second league victory. The match between Sivac and Lavovi of Belgrade will be played tomorrow in the Sivac sports hall, starting at 19.

Super B League leaders Crvenka’s handball team travel to face Kolubara in Lazarevac. Crvenka have won four matches in a row, team morale is excellent, and buoyed by their results, the “squirrels” say they will do everything they can to remain top of the standings after their match against Kolubara. The match between Kolubara and Crvenka will be played in Lazarevac on Sunday and will start at 19 hours.

In the fifth round of the First League championship for women’s handball, Laki hosts Spartak from Debeljača in Crvenka. The match will be played in the Crvenka sports hall on Sunday, starting at 18 hours. The other First League team, the Krule Women’s Handball Club from Sivac, travels to Srpska Crnja tomorrow, where they will face Mladost at 19 hours.

Continuing our preview of sporting events, we turn to football.

In the 12 round of the Serbian League, Vojvodina Group, Hajduk's footballers will visit league newcomers Podunavac in Belegiš. Hajduk head coach Željko Račić says his players face a tough test, as Podunavac is a solid team that is difficult to score against, as shown by the fact that it has won five matches by scoring just one goal. Nevertheless, Hajduk's players will do everything they can to achieve a positive result through disciplined and responsible play. The Podunavac–Hajduk match will be played in Belegiš on Sunday, kicking off at 13 hours and 30 minutes.

In the twelfth round of the Sombor District League championship, Rusin is the only one of our three representatives playing at home. On Sunday, Rusin’s footballers will host Bорац from Bački Gračac in Ruski Krstur. The Krstur team are favorites: they have recorded four consecutive wins, are currently second in the table, and are playing in front of their home supporters, all of which bodes well for a fifth consecutive triumph. The match between Rusin and Borac from Bački Gračac will be played in Ruski Krstur on Sunday, starting at 13 hours and 30 minutes. Lipar’s footballers take to the pitch tomorrow. They visit Kljajićevo, where they face bottom-placed Kordun, giving Lipar’s players a chance to make amends for their defeat in the previous round. On Sunday, Crvenka’s footballers visit Parage, where they will face Budućnost. If they want to stay in the race for the top places, Crvenka must win. The matches in Kljajićevo and Parage will also start at 13 hours and 30 minutes.

The twelfth round of the first division of the Sombor Intermunicipal League will feature a municipal derby in Kula. At the Geder ground, third-placed Kula will face leaders Polet from Sivac. The Sivac team has a one-point lead, so a home win would see the teams swap places in the standings. But Sivac is also determined to show that it is no accident they are league leaders, promising an exciting contest. Mladost from Kruščić travels to face Polet in Rastina. These matches are scheduled for Sunday and will begin at 13 hours and 30 minutes.

Both Hajduk teams are away in the third round of the volleyball championship. In the third round of the First Vojvodina League, North Group, Hajduk's women's volleyball team visit Subotica, determined to record their third win. The match between Subotica and Hajduk's women's teams will be played in Subotica on Sunday, starting at 11. In the third round of the First Vojvodina League, East Group, Hajduk's men's volleyball team will play away in Novi Sad tomorrow, facing Botafogo at 14 and 30 minutes.

In the seventh round of the Serbian First League, Vojvodina Group, Hajduk’s bowlers will host Železničar from Inđija in Vrbas on Sunday. The match will start at 16 hours.

The sports week will also feature a tennis event. On Sunday, the finals of the second edition of the “Helm First League” will be played at the Helm Tennis Club courts by Rodić Lake in Kula. While last year’s inaugural Helm First League was reserved exclusively for recreational players from Kula and the surrounding area, this year several players ranked on the Tennis Federation of Serbia list are taking part, and several of this year’s participants have also played Futures tournaments—further confirmation of the high standard of this second edition of the “Helm First League”. Sunday’s finals will begin at 12 o’clock with the match for third place, featuring Predrag Popović from Kula and Nemanja Bugarski from Vrbas; the third-place match will be played as a best-of-three-sets contest. Then, no earlier than 14 hours, the final will follow, with Aleksandar Dormošev from Kula and Aleksandar Santrač from Bačka Palanka competing for the “Helm First League” title. The final will be played as a best-of-five-sets contest. The organizer, Helm Tennis Club, has provided trophies and cash prizes for the top finishers in the second edition of the “Helm First League”, and the Municipality of Kula is the event’s main sponsor.
