Sports events preview

The sports weekend for clubs from our municipality begins tonight, when Hajduk’s basketball team will host Nova Pazova in the first round of the Serbian Republic League championship – Vojvodina group. The people of Kula are hoping for a win in the opening match. Their optimism is based on the fact that the team is stronger than last season, with Bogdanović, Gagović, Šinik and Stevanović joining. Of course, another reason for optimism is that they will be playing in front of their own fans, whose support will make it easier to achieve the desired victory. The Hajduk–Nova Pazova basketball match will begin at 18 hours tonight in the Petefi Brigade Primary School sports hall.

As far as handball is concerned, our Super B League members, Crvenka and Sivac, will be in action this weekend. In the third round of the championship, Crvenka travels to Belgrade to face newcomers to the league, the Lavovi team. Crvenka’s handball players have made a good start to the season, earning three points in the previous two rounds, and are heading to Belgrade with confidence after that performance. Crvenka coach Vladimir Zejak says Lavovi are a collection of experienced players who know how to play, as they showed by beating Vrbas away in the previous round, and that his team faces a tough match. However, if Crvenka’s handball players can impose their rhythm and defend as they know how, there is no reason to fear the final result. Lavovi and Crvenka will play tomorrow in Belgrade, with the match starting at 19 hours and 30 minutes. Our other Super League team, Sivac 69, were due to visit Apatin in the third round. However, because of work being carried out at the Apatin sports hall, the teams have swapped home fixtures, so they will meet in Sivac. Neither Sivac 69 nor Apatin earned a point in the first two rounds, which means both will be looking to make amends for their disappointing starts in their head-to-head match. Sivac coach Branko Žeželj expects a close match, as the teams know each other well. He thanked the fans for their support so far and believes they will be the deciding factor in helping Sivac’s “panthers” earn their first points. The match between Sivac and Apatin will be played tomorrow at the Sivac sports hall, starting at 19 hours.

In round 8 of the Serbian League championship, Vojvodina group, Hajduk’s footballers host Radnički 1912 from Sombor. It is enough to say that the Sombor team lead the standings to understand what a difficult task lies ahead for Hajduk’s players. However, while recognizing their opponents’ quality, Hajduk’s players say they will give their best; how far that will take them will be clear after the final whistle. The match between Hajduk and Radnički from Sombor will be played tomorrow at the Milan Sredanović Stadium in Kula, kicking off at 15 hours and 30 minutes.

In the eighth round of the Sombor District League championship, league leaders Lipar travel to face Budućnost in Parage on Sunday. Lipar have gone unbeaten in their previous seven matches and are determined to extend that run in Parage. Crvenka host Borac from Obrovac tomorrow. Because Crvenka’s ground is suspended, this match will be played in Ratkovo, but despite the expected lack of support from the stands, Crvenka’s footballers say they are the stronger team and will win. Our third representative in the District League, Rusin, host Tvrđava from Bač in Ruski Krstur on Sunday, determined to make up for last week’s defeat. All these matches will begin at 15 hours and 30 minutes.

Of our three representatives in the first division of the Sombor Intermunicipal League, only Kula are playing at home in the eighth round of the championship. At their ground in Geder, Kula will host Radnički from Sombor. Given that Kula are second in the table and playing before their home supporters, a home win is a realistic expectation. Third-placed Polet from Sivac travel to play Omladinac in Bukovac, while Mladost from Kruščić will be guests of Omladinac in Deronje. All these matches are scheduled for Sunday and will begin at 15 hours and 30 minutes.

In the fourth round of the Serbian First League championship – Vojvodina group, Hajduk's bowlers travel to Kljajićevo. This bowling match is scheduled for tomorrow and will begin at 11 o'clock.
