Sports events preview

The upcoming sporting weekend will be marked by the start of the Handball Super B League championship, and there will also be plenty of action on the football pitches.

In the first round of the Super B Handball League, both teams from our municipality will play away. Crvenka’s handball players travel to face Inđija tomorrow. Judging by their performance at the recent “Čile” Memorial Tournament, the “squirrels” are entering the new season with considerable optimism. Along with the existing squad, three players from Novi Sad’s Vojvodina have joined on so-called dual registration: Tasić, Podunavac and Mašić. A strong squad has been assembled, and confident in their abilities, Crvenka’s handball players say they are going to Inđija to win. The match between Inđija and Crvenka will start tomorrow in Inđija at 17 hours and 30 minutes.

Our other representative in the Super B League, Sivac 69, travel to Belgrade to face Sinđelić. Sivac lost two experienced players between seasons: club legend Vitomir Kalić, who retired, and Ćujić, who changed clubs. However, experienced players Slavuljica, Čabai and Žegarac, along with captain Beslać, will be supported by young players eager to make their mark, so Sivac 69 will have a very competitive squad, combining experience and youth. Sivac handball coach Branko Žeželj says that the opening round is always unpredictable, as teams move from pre-season training into the battle for points, but he believes in his players and expects a positive result in Belgrade. The handball match between Sinđelić and Sivac will be played in Belgrade on Sunday, starting at 18 hours and 30 minutes.

In the sixth round of the Serbian League, Vojvodina Group championship, Hajduk will host Naftagas from Elemir. The visitors are newcomers to the Serbian League, but judging by their results in the first five rounds, they have adapted well, having earned eight points, which suggests that Hajduk will have a tough match. Željko Račić’s players are aware of this, but say that with a fully committed and responsible performance, they will make the most of their home advantage and secure a win. The match between Hajduk and Naftagas from Elemir will be played tomorrow at the Milan Sredanović Stadium, starting at 16 hours.

The sixth round of the Sombor District League will feature two derbies, one of which is a local derby between Crvenka and Lipar. Unfortunately, few football fans from our municipality will be able to attend this derby, because following the well-known incidents that took place after the match between Crvenka and Hajduk from Stapar, the Crvenka pitch has been suspended. Crvenka must play two home matches at a ground 30 kilometers away from Crvenka, so the team will host Lipar tomorrow in Apatin. Despite all this, and the fact that Ivić and Zelić will be unable to play because of red cards, Crvenka’s footballers are determined to show against table leaders Lipar that they rightly count themselves among the contenders for promotion. Lipar, meanwhile, the only team with five wins from five, say they will not abandon their attacking style and will show against Crvenka that their results so far are no coincidence, but the product of quality football. All this promises a superb local derby, which will be played tomorrow in Apatin, starting at 16. The other derby will be played in Ruski Krstur, where third-placed Rusin will meet fourth-placed ČSK Pivara from Čelarevo. The team from Krstur say they respect their opponents but are also aware of their own strengths, and expect to celebrate a victory with the support of the fans. The match between Rusin and ČSK Pivara from Čelarevo will be played in Ruski Krstur on Sunday, starting at 16.

In the sixth round of the Sombor Intermunicipal League First Division championship, all three teams from our municipality will play away. Mladost from Kruščić will have the toughest task, travelling to face BSK in Bački Brestovac, a team that have recorded all five wins. Sivac’s Polet will play away against OFK Odžaci, while Kula will travel to Rastina to take on the home team, Polet. All these matches are scheduled for Sunday and will begin at 16 hours.
