A preview of this weekend’s sports events

The traditional night five-a-side football tournament “Goran Marčetić Mačak Memorial,” organized by Lipar Football Club in memory of its distinguished member and as part of the village celebration of the Dormition of the Mother of God, began last night in Lipar. 16 teams from the municipalities of Kula and Bačka Topola are taking part in this year’s tournament. They have been divided into four groups and will play a round-robin format, after which the winner of this highly prestigious tournament will be decided in a so-called knockout phase. The following results were recorded in last night’s matches: Z.Z. Sokolac – Nikola Tesla Primary School 5:1, Soccer Betting Shop – Agroznanje Agricultural Pharmacy 10:2, and Café Moscow (Bačka Topola) – Combat Zone Bajša 5:1. Three matches are scheduled for tonight: the first, at 20 hours and 30 minutes, is MM Hardware Store Kula – KU Media Kula; the second is Z.Z. Sokolac – Ares VND Kula; and the third is Soccer Betting Shop – Malina Crvenka. The Lipar tournament has a prize fund of 250 thousand dinars. The winner will receive 150, the runner-up 70, and the third-place team 30 thousand dinars. The tournament’s general sponsor in Lipar is the Sokolac Agricultural Cooperative, while the Lipar Meat Industry “Stork” and the Lipar Local Community also helped organize the tournament.

Our football teams will also use the coming weekend to play friendly matches.

Serbian League side Hajduk 1912 have another fitness test tomorrow, when they will take on Mladost in Turija at 18 hours and 30 minutes. District League side Crvenka will host Hajduk from Stapari on Sunday at 18 hours and 30 minutes. Rusin will host OFK Odžaci in Ruski Krstur on Sunday at 18 hours, while our third District League team, Lipar, will visit Kula at the Geder on Sunday at 18 hours. Polet, a member of the Sombor Intermunicipal League First Division, will host Iskra from Kucura in Sivac on Sunday; the match will begin at 18 hours.

Tomorrow, Polet Football Club will host the second Boban Damjanović Memorial Tournament, organized in memory of the club’s late prominent member. Twelve teams of boys born in 2013 or later will take part, and according to the organizers, clubs from Belgrade—Partizan and Crvena zvezda—along with Novi Sad’s Vojvodina, Bačka Topola’s TSC, Spartak from Subotica and Hajduk from Kula have announced their participation. This means that almost all of the best young football talent Serbia has to offer in this age group will be on display. The second Boban Damjanović Memorial Tournament will begin tomorrow in Sivac at 9.

Tomorrow and the day after, Hajduk Tennis Club will host the Kula Open Championship for boys and girls up to 14 years of age. The tournament is included in the calendar of the Vojvodina Tennis Association, and 14 boys and 12 girls from Serbia and abroad will take part. The tournament starts tomorrow at 9, when boys will take to all four courts, while the girls’ competition begins at 10. The semifinal and final matches in both competitions will be played on Sunday, with play also starting at 9.
