The “Summer Challenges” event was held at the “Potok” picnic area in Crvenka over the weekend. This year, for the first time, the programme was designed for the youngest children too. They competed in a variety of games: in teams, they pulled a rope and jumped in sacks; they were introduced to the world of targets and arrows, as well as to the activities of the “Vidre” Association and its well-known camp. They were also helped by the “Crvenka” Athletics Club and the “Target” Archery Club. A magician entertained the children, and at the end of the programme they received medals and appropriate gifts.

Zoran Maravić, president of the Target Archery Club from Crvenka, noted that the discipline they practice—3D archery—is unique in that it is completely safe for children:

,,Today we’re going to play with the children and introduce them to our archery sport. We practice a special type of discipline, currently the most popular in Europe and America, and here too: 3D archery, which simulates hunting. The children play and hunt for things, but they don’t kill anything. This satisfies their desire to hunt without harming anyone.”

He also announced a 3D Cup for the youngest age groups, which will be held on 30. July, also at the “Potok” picnic area:

“It will be a 3D Cup for the youngest age groups, at the Vojvodina level. It will be held on 30. July, on these beautiful grounds by the stream—from the road towards Nova Crvenka. We’ll look for as much shade as possible, because it’s very hot, but our aim is for people to enjoy themselves and have a good time at the tournament, and for the children to be as comfortable and entertained as possible, so they’ll come back again.”

Velimir Kadović, president of the “Vidre” Association, emphasized that the Association’s aim is to raise children’s and young people’s awareness of the importance of sports and physical activity and spending time in nature. They established their well-known “Vidre” Camp with this goal in mind.

,,Today we introduced the children to our summer camps, which we organize during the summer, and explained the camps’ and the Association’s goals. We organized some sports activities purely for fun, so that parents and children could take part together and interact. Our Association’s aim is to raise children’s and young people’s awareness of the impact of sport and physical activity on their growth and development, environmental protection, and spending time in nature and living in harmony with it. We established our camp, called Otter Camp, with this aim in mind, so that we could introduce all these things to children more directly and in a more interesting way, and encourage them to learn how to experience nature in the right way. Camps have been organized in Pannonia for 14 years. This year, the camp began in late June and ended on 17 July. We hold camps around that time every year, once the children’s summer vacation begins and for as long as the weather stays nice.”

In the afternoon, a fish-paprikash cooking competition, the “Ante Maras Maki Memorial,” was held, with 22 teams taking part. Judge Pero Svilar explained what makes a good paprikash:

“Every paprika stew must first satisfy the palate and have the right color and overall appearance—those are the three things that are judged. If it doesn’t, it is eliminated right away; those that do are awarded points.”

The best paprika stew was cooked by the team from Doroslovo and Bački Brestovac, led by Željko Andrašić, who has competed here before. He says he has also taken part in “Čvarak Fest” in Sivac and in the competition in Kula, and that at “Potok” he has always finished among the top three:

,,This is a dear place to us, the setting is wonderful, and we come here every year and always finish among the top three. The first time we won a piglet, the second time a lamb, then a kid, and now a lamb again. There are some very good cooks here—they’re all my friends—but I’m glad we won. There’s no secret to making a good fish stew. You add water, fish, salt and paprika, depending on how each person makes it. We always take part in Čvarak Fest in Sivac. We also competed in Kula. We haven’t won anything at Čvarak Fest, but the important thing is getting together.”

In the evening, those present were able to attend a concert by Novica Tekić and guests, bringing this year’s “Summer Challenges” event to a successful close.
