Basketball players kick off a packed sports weekend

Another packed sports weekend is ahead, and Hajduk’s basketball players will kick it off tonight. In round 4 of the Serbia Regional League championship, North Group, Hajduk will visit Srbobran tonight to face Akademik. In the previous three rounds, both teams recorded two wins and one loss. Akademik will be looking to make the most of home-court advantage, while Hajduk must win game after game if it wants to finish at the top, so an exciting basketball showdown can be expected. The Akademik–Hajduk game in Srbobran will begin tonight at 18 hours and 40 minutes.

After a break for EHF Week, the handball championship resumes this weekend.

In round five of the Super B League championship, Crvenka’s handball team host newcomers Hercegovac from Gajdobra in front of their home fans. Crvenka have made a successful start to the season, recording three wins and one draw in four matches, three of them away, and are surely favourites on the back of those results and the fact that they are playing at home. However, it will not be easy, as Hercegovac are an experienced team featuring three former Crvenka players: goalkeeper Karavezić, winger Mirić and centre-back Radonjić. The “Squirrels” will therefore have to play with maximum discipline if they want to continue their successful run. The match between Crvenka and Hercegovac from Gajdobra will be played on Sunday at the Slobodan Čile Mišković Hall in Crvenka, kicking off at 18.

A day earlier, on Saturday, our other Super League team, the Sivac handball players, will take the court. In the fifth round, Sivac will play away in Smederevo, where they will face the team of the same name. Their victory over Inđija last round restored the confidence of Sivac’s “Panthers,” giving them reason to hope for a strong performance and a favorable result in Smederevo as well. Tomorrow’s match between Smederevo and Sivac will begin in Smederevo at 19.

In the fourth round of the First League championship for women, women’s handball club “Krуле” will host Proleter from Zrenjanin in Sivac. These are teams that have yet to earn a point this season, so the Sivac women, counting on home-court advantage, are announcing their first win. The Krule–Proleter match from Zrenjanin will be played at the Sivac sports hall on Sunday, starting at 12 hours. Our other First League team, Lakí Handball Club from Crvenka, has a bye, as it was due to face Ravangrad from Sombor, but the Sombor women have withdrawn from the competition.

In round 11 of the Serbian League Vojvodina championship, Hajduk’s footballers travel to Bečej. It will be a clash between teams in the middle of the table, sides that know each other very well, so the result of their head-to-head match will depend on who is more inspired on the day. The match between Bečej and Hajduk will be played in Bečej tomorrow, kicking off at 14 hours and 30 minutes.

In round 11 of the Sombor District League, Crvenka will host Polet from Karavukovo tomorrow in front of its supporters. The Crvenka side are determined to make amends for the defeat they suffered in the previous round. Our other two representatives in the District League play on Sunday. Lipar will host Budućnost from Mladenovo. Although they will be without the suspended Delić, Kovač and Žuža, the Lipar players say that only a win will do. Rusin from Ruski Krstur will visit Borac in Obrovac. If they want to remain near the top of the table, the Rusin players must go for a win in Obrovac as well. All these matches will kick off at 14 hours and 30 minutes.

In round 11 of the Sombor Inter-Municipal League, First Grade, league leaders Polet will host Polet from Rastina in Sivac. Anything other than a home win would be a surprise. In Kruščić, Mladost will face Telečka in a bottom-of-the-table derby; Telečka have yet to taste victory this season. Our third representative, Kula, will visit Terekveš in Sivoljevo, determined to stay in the race for first place with a win. All these matches are scheduled for Sunday and will kick off at 14 hours and 30 minutes.

In round five of the Vojvodina Futsal League, Hajduk’s futsal team host Indians 2013 from Inđija. The match will be played at the Petefi Brigade Primary School sports hall on Monday, kicking off at 20 hours and 10 minutes.

Saturday in Kula will be all about volleyball, as both Hajduk’s men’s and women’s teams are playing at home. In the second round of the First Vojvodina League, East Group, Hajduk’s men will host Bačka Palanka. The match will start tomorrow at 16 at the Petefi Brigade Primary School gym. Three hours later, at 19, Hajduk’s women will host Vrbas in the second round of the First Vojvodina League, North Group, determined to secure with a win the success they achieved in the opening round in Subotica.
