Jovana Jovović, Serbia’s youngest debutante

Jovana Jovović, a product of Crvenka’s renowned handball school, has made history in Serbian handball by becoming the youngest player to debut for Serbia at a major competition. Jovana Jovović made her debut for the Serbian national team in a match against Angola, played on Saturday at the World Championship in Japan. Since she turns 18 today, Jovana made her national-team debut at the age of 17 years, eleven months, and 26 days, surpassing Dragana Cvijić, who made her debut at the European Championship in Macedonia in 2008 at the age of 18 years and 8 months.

“This is a great honor for me. I would like to thank the coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to be part of our team at the World Championship. I hope I’ll do well and make the most of this opportunity,” Jovović told the website of the Handball Federation of Serbia, adding that the coach, trainers and girls make things much easier for her, helping her feel no nerves or great pressure, and that it is easy to be the youngest in such a team.

Jovana Jovović began training in handball at the age of 11 at Handball Club “Laki,” where she learned the basics of coaching from renowned coach Milorad Lajić. She is currently a member of the Hungarian club “Dunaújváros.”
