Weekend sports roundup

The past sporting weekend was marked by the end of the basketball season and Kula footballers’ victory, which returned them to the top of the table

Hajduk’s footballers lost 3:1 to hosts Borac in Sakule in the 22th round of the Serbian League, Vojvodina Group; the score was 1:1 at halftime. As in several previous matches, Hajduk’s footballers made an excellent start in Sakule, and in the eleventh minute, following an excellent cross from Plavšić, Vlajsavljević put Hajduk ahead. However, the joy of the Kula players did not last long, as Borac managed to equalize in the fourteenth minute, and the teams went into the break at 1:1. In the second half, Borac took the lead 60 minutes in, making it 2:1. Hajduk’s footballers then tried to equalize but failed, and Borac scored a third goal in stoppage time to make the final score 3:1. After the away game in Sakule, Hajduk are fourteenth in the table with 21 point, and in the next round, scheduled for Wednesday, they host bottom-placed Kikinda in front of their fans.

Of the three representatives from our municipality in the Sombor District League, in 22. round of the championship, Lipar were the only team to win, beating Borrac from Obrovac 2:0 on their home ground. The winner was decided in the first half, when Lipar striker Marchetić scored twice, in the 10. and 23. minutes, to set what would prove to be the final score. Crvenka played out a 2:2 draw against Radnički from Ratkovo in front of their home fans. Crvenka failed to convert several good chances in the first half, and the visitors punished them for those misses in the second half, taking the lead through an own goal by Jovan Subotić. Crvenka did not give up, and their attacking play paid off with goals: first Jovanović equalized at 1:1, then Crvenka’s best player, Čvokić, put his team ahead. However, after a Crvenka defender slipped, the visitors scored a second goal to make the final score Crvenka–Radnički 2:2. Our third representative, Rusin from Ruski Krstur, lost 3:2 to ŽAK in Sombor in the round’s derby, significantly reducing their chances of reaching a higher division via the playoff by finishing second. Sajanković scored both goals for Rusin. The Krstur side are currently fourth in the table with 43 points, Lipar are eleventh with 27, and Crvenka are thirteenth with 23 points. In the next round, Rusin host Budućnost from Mladenovo in Ruski Krstur, Crvenka host Radnički from Sombor, and Lipar travel to Borrac in Bački Gračac.

In the municipal derby played in the 19 round of the Sombor Inter-Municipal League First Division, Kula’s footballers defeated Polet from Sivac 1:0 at Geder. Srđan Bortnik scored the winning goal in the 75 minute, and Kula’s victory was all the more important because it returned them to the top of the standings.

Our third representative in the Sombor Inter-Municipal League First Division, Mladost from Kruščić, defeated Dinamo 5:3 away in Bački Breg. Kruščić led 3:1, and the hosts managed to equalize, but this did not discourage Mladost’s footballers, who scored two more goals after the equalizer to win 5:3. Grdinić and Holovati scored twice for Mladost, while Gačević scored one goal. Kula are top of the standings with 40 points, Polet are sixth with 29, and Mladost are eighth with 20. In the next round, Kula travel to Aleksa Šantić, Polet host Dinamo from Bački Breg in Sivac, and Mladost will host OFK Odžaci in Kruščić.

Hajduk’s basketball players ended the season with a win. In the eighth round of the First Regional League of Serbia playoffs, Hajduk defeated Železničar from Inđija 74 in front of their home supporters: 60, with a halftime score of 38:24. This was Hajduk’s eighth consecutive playoff win, earning them second place in the standings. Hajduk basketball coach Danilo Borović was pleased with the victory…

Handball news follows in the sports roundup.

There was no Super League handball over the past weekend because of commitments by the Serbian national team, but the women’s handball teams were in action.

In the 19 round of the women’s First League championship, both clubs from our municipality played at home. In Sivac, women’s handball club Krule hosted Temerin, second in the standings, who showed their class and defeated the hosts 35:24. The Temerin women secured the win after the first half, which they ended with a 19:11 lead. Aleksandra Jelenković was Krule’s top scorer with 8 goals. Our other First League team, Crvenka’s Laki, defeated Jabuka 20:19 in front of their fans, with a halftime score of 11:10 in Jabuka’s favor. It was a closely contested match, with the teams exchanging goals, until the home players pulled three goals ahead in the 54 minute, taking a 20:17 lead and managing to win in the end. Marija Ivić was Laki’s top scorer with 7 goals. After nineteen rounds, Krule are seventh in the standings with 15, while Laki are eleventh with 10 points. In the next round, Krule will visit Jabuka, while Laki will face Mladost in Srpska Crnja.
