Events from the past sports weekend

Crvenka’s handball players continued their winning streak in the Super B League championship. Last night, in the 10 round match, Crvenka hosted Inđija in Ruski Krstur and won 40:27, with the halftime score at 22:9. The visitors held on until the eighth minute, when the score was 5:5, but over the next six minutes Crvenka’s handball players went on a 7:0 run to take a 12:5 lead. Their advantage then continued to grow, reaching as much as 15 at certain points in the match. The starting lineup’s excellent play and commanding lead gave Crvenka coach Miloš Mitrović the opportunity to give the other players a chance, and the young Crvenka players made the most of it. Perović and Bošković were Crvenka’s top scorers in the win over Inđija, with 8 goals each, while Crvenka captain Ognjen Radonjić was named player of the match.

Our other Super League team, Sivac 69, disappointed. After beating Vrbas at home, it was expected that the team’s confidence had returned, and they went to Velika Plana optimistically for a match against Morava, who had been at the bottom of the table until this round. However, that optimism was unfounded: Morava won 33:27, with the half-time score 17:14. Sivac’s handball coach, Branko Žeželj, points out that the team’s form is clearly declining: after the first five rounds, his team had recorded four wins and one draw, but in the next five rounds it suffered as many as four defeats. It is clear that the team has been missing the long-absent Slavljuljica for some time; experienced Ćujić, who is important in defense, was also unavailable in Velika Plana, but that cannot excuse the defeat. Milan Šajin was Sivac’s top scorer against Morava in Velika Plana, with 8 goals.

After ten rounds of the championship, Crvenka are fourth in the standings with 12, while Sivac 69 are seventh with eleven points. The final round of the autumn half will feature a local derby, as Sivac 69 and Crvenka meet in Sivac on Saturday.

Both of our First League women’s handball teams suffered defeats. In the tenth round of the First League, Sivac’s women’s handball club Krule visited Mladost in Srpska Crnja and lost 33:27, with a halftime score of 17:13 in Mladost’s favor. The decisive moments of the match came between the 19 and 27 minutes. In the 19 minute, Mladost held a one-goal lead—the score was 11:10—but then Sivac’s women went eight minutes without scoring. Mladost went on a 4:0 run, built a five-goal lead and eventually won deservedly. Aleksandra Jelenković was Krule’s top scorer with 11 goals. Crvenka’s Laki visited Debeljača, where they lost 38:22 to Spartak, with a halftime score of 20:11. Spartak had already taken a 10:3 lead in the twelfth minute and continued to extend it until the end of the match. Anželi Lovre was Laki’s top scorer with 8 goals. After ten rounds, Krule are eighth in the standings with 7 points, while Laki are bottom with 2 points. In the final round of the autumn season, Krule host Spartak from Debeljača, while Laki host Sloven from Ruma.

Hajduk’s basketball players beat Topola from Bačka Topola 82:75 in the ninth round of the Serbian First Regional League – North group, in front of their home supporters, with a half-time score of 43:37 in Topola’s favor. Hajduk’s basketball players, who were without the help of Korpivica and Mandić against Topola, played a superb first quarter, winning it 28:16, and at that point it seemed they would record a convincing victory. However, the second quarter brought a turnaround: they scored only nine points, compared with 27 by the visitors, and Danilo Borović’s players went into the break six points behind. Hajduk’s basketball players reduced the visitors’ lead, and after the third quarter Topola was ahead by just one point. But in the final quarter, two three-pointers by young Krivokapić and Cvetićanin helped Hajduk’s basketball players secure a win in the closing free-throw contest. Hajduk’s top scorers were Đurović with 21 and captain Škrbić with 20 points. With seven wins and two losses, Hajduk’s basketball players are second in the standings, and in the next round they visit Sloven in Ruma.

In the ninth round of the First Regional League of Serbia, Northern Group, Sivac’s women’s basketball team defeated Jedinstvo from Novi Bečej 79:28 at home in Sivac, with a halftime score of 37:16 in Sivac’s favor. The result speaks for itself, but this is not surprising, as Jedinstvo are bottom of the table without a single point. Sivac’s women are currently fourth in the standings with 5 wins and 4 losses, and in the next round they visit Vizura in Belgrade.

Hajduk’s volleyball players have recorded their seventh defeat in the championship. In the seventh round of the Second League championship, Hajduk played away in Novi Sad, where they lost 3:0 to the young Vojvodina NS Seme team 3, coached by former volleyball star Strahinja Kozić. The set scores were 25:17, 25:13 and 25:17. It should be noted that Hajduk are newcomers to the Second League, still gaining the necessary experience that will help them perform better as the season progresses. So far in the championship, Hajduk have earned one point, and in the eighth round they will host Dunav Volley from Novi Sad. Hajduk’s women’s team had a bye in the seventh round of the First Vojvodina League championship and will face Subotica’s Spartak in the next round.

Hajduk’s bowlers have taken the lead in the First Vojvodina League. In the previous, 9 round of the championship, Kula defeated Vrbas, who had led the standings until then, in the local derby, 7:1 on points and 3266:3184 in total pinfall. Hajduk’s points were won by Marko Eraković, who knocked down 557 pins; Darko Milović, with 556; Mirko Bakić, with 550; Branko Vuksan, with 549; and Vladimir Trišić, with 536 pins. Two points were awarded because Hajduk knocked down more pins overall. Hajduk’s bowlers lead the standings with 12 points, and will visit SPENS in Novi Sad in the next round.
