Good Friday is the saddest Christian holiday. Jesus Christ was crucified on Good Friday. Eggs are dyed on this day, most often red, because red represents the victory of life over death and the joy of Christ's resurrection.
The first red egg to be dyed is called the guardian egg and is kept throughout the year. It is believed that this egg protects the family from negative energy and illness. Also, on this holiday, last year’s guardian egg is buried in an anthill to ensure a fruitful year, and it is believed that the egg should be thrown into a river so that all the negative things it gathered from the previous year leave the home.
It is believed that there should be no singing or dancing on Good Friday, and Orthodox Christians observe a strict fast. People do no strenuous physical work on this day, but instead devote themselves to prayer.
There is an old belief associated with Holy Saturday that is not connected to Christianity: girls should pick flowers on this day, put them under their pillows, and then they will dream of their soulmate.
